Since when? I just left there in February, and I never once saw or heard about firearms sales at NAS or the one by Corry.

Last time I was there was about 2004 so I am sure quiet a bit has changed since then. I never saw or heard of any firearm counters at Ft Benning or Ft Drum.

In 24 years in the military, the only base I was ever at that sold firearms was Eielson AFB in Alaska.

Fort Bliss PX has a well stocked selection. They do however overprice ammo to the point it is still cheaper to buy on the economy after taxes and during the PMAG crisis they hid the pmags behind the counter and jacked the price up on them.

I just had a though as I was never stationed in any anti gun areas for more than the time it took to go through a training course. Would some place like say Ft Carson, CO or Camp Pendleton, CA be able to sell items that would not normally be available to the citizens of those states?

Both Ft. Carson and Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs have guns & ammo. Haven't been to either, but I hear they're pretty well stocked and will order items. In addition, Ft. Carson has opened a brand new, well maintained, inexpensive, and extremely popular public range on their property, right off I-25.

Yeah, must have changed. I don't remember seeing any when I was there in 2003 either, but I was more worried about Air Force girls and the beach back then. ;)

We had a rod and gun club in Berlin in the 90s, not sure if it's still there.

The Offutt AFB BX has a gun counter with a good selection of handguns & long guns.

I bought a Walther PPS two years ago and a CMMG AR-15 just before Christmas 2012.

NEX

Received from NEXCOM this morning:

"CAPT Fisher,

Thank you for your inquiry. The Navy Exchange does not sell firearms and ammunition because it is not a good business for the NEX to be in. Due to the expense of operating this department, there is little or no profit which would negatively impact NEX contributions to Navy quality of life programs.

The amount of employee training that must be conducted on a continual basis, the burdensome paperwork involved, the rigid security required, stringent storage requirements, daily inventory, record retention requirements for 20 years and other requirements that vary from state to state all add up to make this a very expensive and difficult department to manage. Also, since it is illegal to have any firearms on military installations, this would require a process and procedure from each CO.

The Navy Exchange believes this category is best left to retailers that specialize in this type of merchandise.

Best regards,

Jim Winn

So, That's that as far as NEX goes. Otherwise, Langley AFB - yes.

I think he missed the point of these Exchanges:

They exist to SERVE the military community, and the lack of such a service is a detriment to our quality of life.

Selling firearms does require training and a little extra effort. Thankfully, at least on the Army bases I've been on, they've been willing to put forth the effort.

It is not illegal to have a firearm (personally owned weapon) on a military installation, given you follow the regulations governing such ownership. Our customer service manager needs to do a little more research into this topic.

OK, that explains why they don't sell firearms, not why they won't sell ammunition and accessories.

Parris Island sells guns...bought a M&P Shield for $389. Ft. Jackson sells guns...havent bought there but they do sell them.

Main px at Stuart in ga did bout a year ago, that's the last time I was in there, but I don't see why they wouldn't now
