Does your vote count?

My vote for President will not count. I live in RI which is hugely democratic. Whoever runs, RI's paltry electoral contribution will go to the Democrat. Ditto I would guess for NY and CA.
My question is: Which states are close enough for a vote, for either party to count?
 
That's odd, Griz. I live in Florida, and I'm not sure if my votes have been counted even once...
 
I could care less if you feel your vote does not count... VOTE... its one of the only things you can do to try and make a change. The logic of its a wasted vote or it does not count is just lame.
 
Fortunately, I live in one of those "swing states" you hear the talking heads yakking about. So, I have no doubt that my vote "counts." Even if I lived in PRK or MA or some such, I'd vote anyway. I've wanted to vote ever since I was a kid, and I was mad that I missed out on the big 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. I was, of course, under 18 for both of those. So, I'm looking forward to casting my vote in '08.

You must be military. They don't count those. Al Gore says so.

I know you're about to come out with proof of that accusation, right? No, my vote is (hopefully "was") in doubt because the Republicans running the state chose a voting system that could be easily tampered with, the vote tallies could be changed to whatever the administrators wanted them to be, and there was no actual written backup that could be re-counted to show fraud.

My vote was also discarded in a close election, when Republican agitators came into my town and staged violent uprisings threatening the elections boards with harm unless they stopped doing their job (counting votes).

I have no faith that my vote was counted in any election since 1998...
 
If your vote counted they wouldn't let you.

I continue to vote however, even if in MD voting red or for Ron it technically fits that definition of insanity we like to throw out there every so often
 
Well here in the Commonwealth of Mass my vote only counts in national elections if I vote Democrat. Local and state level it does count.
 
As long as Diebold voting machines, or any other electronic medium with no paper trail are in use, nobody can be certain of their vote. Just my opinion.

As an aside, I don't seem to recall any Democrats complaining about Diebold in the last election ... I guess we don't have to worry about that any more.
 
Nope. I live in a solidly Republican district.

Beyond sheriff and maybe city council, I've not once voted for a winning candidate or winning ballot item.

2001. Florida. Military absentee ballots were discarded because they weren't postmarked, even though they arrived at the clerk's office prior to voting day. Lawyers for the Democratic Party championed this. It took a lawsuit to get *some* of the military votes counted. Google it.
