Doesn't this make your blood boil?

Well, since it's a quote, it isn't in the newspaper's purview to correct or edit what someone says. As for the gun control organizations, it's what they do best.

having a hard time finding contact info for Ralph Fascitelli, if you post it I will write him.

titanium bullets... that's a new one, wonder who made that one up?

Washington CeaseFire can't plant flowers fast enough to keep up.
The organization, dedicated to reducing gun violence, has planted flowers at Green Lake Park every year as lasting memorials to people who have been shot to death.

If they were even 1% concerned about reducing violent crime, they'd quit planting flowers and start advocating taking action against the root cause of violent crime: criminals.

"A household with a gun is five times more likely to have a homicide," Mayor Greg Nickels told the gathering at the CeaseFire planting ceremony.

Don't leftist extremists ever tire of retelling the same tired old lies? Aren't they creative enough to come up with the occasional new lie?

How much is a yearly subscription to a newpaper now-a-days? $150, $200 a year?

While I am thinking along these lines, how much is cable TV? $40 a month? [12 * 40 = $480 yr]

$480 +$150 = $630 a year folks spend on Stupid Stuff, Tyranny Brainwashing Them and all.

See where I am going? Boycott Newpapers, and Cable TV, the Stupid People won't be fed a much Stupid, and they can use Internet to get informed. That is where WE turn folks around.

With $630 they can take a training class, get a gun, and to heck with memorials, just backhoe the perps and set them to blaze with the other trash at the landfill.

Flower business is going to surive, always has, always will.

FWIW I do not take the paper, or own a personal TV.

Maybe I need to run for office on that platform.

I confess that I get the paper. WCIS? I like comics :p

TV, however, is a blatant waste of time if you want informative news; a travesty if you expect accurate or fair reporting. The internet has almost caught TV as the best source for breaking news...has in many instances.

:D Heh, "titanium", idiots. The desireable quality of titanium is that it is lighter than steel while being almost as strong, also non-ferrous if that matters in an application. The quality you want in a bullet, especially to pierce armor is as dense as possible. The metal they were looking for is "tungsten" or "depleted uranium".

Hardly takes a .50 cal projectile fashioned from an exotic material to punch through...aluminium.:scrutiny:

These statements don't make me mad...it is easy to show they are no-nothing morons who are either lying to scare people...or just ignorant. Had he said "tungsten" and quoted some accurate armor plate penetration stats. compared to how much penetration that would equal in an airliner...well harder to invalidate that argument in the minds of fence sitters.

If you can show someone to be a biased idiot or that they are lying, it will cast doubt on everything they say.

REMEMBER THIS

If the media can't get it right - or even close to right - on issues about which you are personally well informed. Why should you trust them to get it right on issues you have no personal knowledge of?

Lifted from a members tag line.

They lost the battle of facts and truth long ago. They are now stuck with using emotion and fear to get people to side with them. If they have to lie they are apparently willing to do so to further their agenda. They twist and manipulate facts and omit anything that doesn't directly support their points.

When all the states that adopted CCW laws didn't turn into wild west shootout zones they lost the "law abiding citizens are too dangerous to carry firearms" argument. Now they have to convince everyone that they are too incompetent to handle a firearm. What is mind blowing is the number of people that are so willing to believe that they are too incompetent. They trust themselves to drive a car down a public road lined with innocent pedestrians but not to carry a firearm on that same street? Hmmmm me thinks there isn't alot of reason going into that opinion.

The P-I's Neil Modie is a veteran reporter and I have every confidence that he got all those quotes accurately. As noted in an earlier post, it's his job to accurately report what people say, not write an editorial explaining that they're dumber than rocks or lying through their teeth, or whatever.

Actually, the P-I did this community a service. Now gun owners in WA have a good idea what to anticipate from CeaseFire when the Legislature convenes in January.

The dumbells here are CeaseFire and Police Chief Kerlikowske, he of the "gun stolen from car" embarrassment from two years ago.

And those of you who are trying to offer a correction with notes about tungsten or depleted uranium bullets... SHADDUP! Don't give these people any help, and for the sake of all the gods in heaven, don't give them any ideas. :)

It's best when they sound like fools.

Do you guys think that maybe an incredible sniper with a 20mm could take down a small aircraft (like a Cessna) as it is taking off or landing?

I think it's possible, but the notion of .50BMG to bring any plane, especially a 747, out of the air is ludicrous.

Even if he had said tungsten the whole "bring down an airliner" bit is stupid. First, at its slowest, an airplane in the air travels what, 150 or 200 mph? Talk about a moving target. I would assume you are shooting from a distance, so a scope would be necessary. That shot is amost impossible. But more importantly, what would be the result? Unless the bullet hit every member of the crew, an airplane could easily survive a shot, even with a .50 cal. If it hit the engine, it might take out that engine, but there is another. All systems on an airplane are redundant, so no problems. Bombers in WWII came back full of holes, but they came back. I'm so sick of this stupid "bring down an airliner" crap.

BINGO! :neener:

I witnessed a demo when I was in the service where they turned a jet engine up to 100% RPM and dropped a stanless steel "1/4 inch" bolt 1 inch long into the intake. There was nothing left but the engine supports, one hell of an explosion. So in my opinion a 50 cal bullet in the intake might very well take a 747 down, if the engine exploded it would probaly take that wing off with it.

But the .50bmg WAS in fact used as the standard weapon on alot of airplanes in WWII. And the .50bmg DID take down alot of airplanes in WWII. It is highly unlikely though that even a skilled shooter could take down a modern jetliner with it in a semi-auto or bolt action rifle chambered in .50, but it is possible, very possible.

Yes. But in that case almost any medium-largebore rifle could take down a jetliner.

btw, how many people have been murdered with a .50 BMG in the country?

zero

Folks - let's remember that jet airliners travel at approximately 400 - 600 miles an hour; and fly at altitudes between 25,000 and 35,000 feet - that's 5 to 7 MILES above the surface of the planet.

If .50 cals could bring down aircraft flying at that height and speed, the Army wouldn't need Stinger missiles, now would they?

Boeing 747 Take Off and Cruising Speed

The takeoff speed of a 747 is 180mph. link

Cruising speed is 560mph link

It's max speed is over 600mph at 30,000 feet. link

[sarcasm]How much do you lead a target moving 560mph at 30,000 feet? :what:

Yea a rifle is an effective way to take down airliners.[/sarcasm]

Paying to get the paper delivered to your house is a waste of $$$. If you live in any meduim to major city here in Stl you can get the paper free by just going on the internet. Unless you want coupons.

Besides its faster reading it on the net.
