I am a one eye shooter, always have been, and I shoot right handed. The problem is that I am left eye dominate. The best that I have ever shot was a 99, and a 97 on registered targets. Since my left eye is the dominate eye would it make sense to attempt to shoot left handed to keep both eyes open? Is that really gonna help me to pick up those few nagging targets that I am missing. If I do switch that would mean readjusting my whole gun set up. I guess my question is: Is it worth shooting left handed so that I can become a two eyed trap shooter, or is it not worth all the aggervation?

You could try shooting left handed at practice and see. I know two shooters who did it and they now shoot left handed. The transition period was almost a year untill their scores were similar to shooting right handed. If it is worth the effort only you can tell.

Try putting a piece of tape on your left lens, where your left eye looks when you are shooting right handed. This will block out the target and still let you keep both eyes open.

Re. eye dominance & trap shooting

Slightly greater peripheral vision gained with both eyes open might help a little but the binocular vision, i.e. the depth perception gained shooting with both eyes open will not be of much value when shooting trap, unlike sporting clays, for example.

Some people can change from one shoulder to the other with little problem while others have considerably more difficulty. Part of it depends on how long you have been shooting right-handed and part of it depends on each side's muscle tone and eye/hand coordination.

If you miss more right-to-left targets than left-to-right targets, changing sides might be worth trying. The comparison would yield information on the benefit of greater peripheral vision when using both eyes.
