I don't believe Don Nelson was a member here (unless he used another handle) , but the oldtimers from the "Shooters.com" forums will remember him as Don OTMW (of too many words). Don was a wonderful mentor to all the younger shooters over his time at shooter.com, myself included. Always happy to talk guns , shooting and swords with anyone.

He was 48 years old and leaves behind a wife and daughter , he died of an apparent heart attack while involved in a PM conversation at swordforum.com. We are again diminished, my thoughts go out to his family. Ray

I'm a swordforumite and he was a huge man on that forum. I knew he was a fellow handgun shooter and we talked about gun laws a fair bit in relation to sword laws. Don successfully pushed for a legal forum on swordforum to try to get people involved with the fight against various forms of weapons control and the degredation of our rights. He was a good man and will be missed.

A lot of Don's cyberfriends are holding a cyber wake for him over on the Shootersville forum.

Don touched a lot of folks worldwide. He was the honorary Mayor of the old Shooters.com Handguns forum, where he welcomed and tutored many, many newcomers to the forum and to shooting.

His passing leaves a huge void in our community of interests.

Hi Ray.

Sad news .. I knew him only by reputation .. and that by all accounts was pretty darn good. It is even more tragic that we lose a guy like this at such a tender age ... sure makes me feel awful mortal I can say.

A further aspect of the loss is, like with Labgrade - these are guys who have been huge in the RKBA scene generally .... great contributors. They leave huge voids when they pass.

R.I.P. Don.

Oh that is terrible.

I came to really appreciate his point of view. The phrase "Kind and Wizened counsel" comes to mind. I missed reading his posts when I left for my agency academy and was off the Shooters.com website for quite a while.

My condolences to his family.

Clark- good to see you over here.

"Is it just me or have we be losing a lot of people lately?"
Not just you, Don will be missed.

:(

This is an awful way to start the day. I was a member at Shooters as well & enjoyed many a conversation with him. Back in the spring of 2000 when he couldn't make it out to the Shooters get together I told him that I would shoot off a magazine full of .45 in his honor. He was so pleased when I told him that that magazine was a 30 round stick shot out of a full auto Thompson by my (then) 8 year old.

RIP Don, I'm sorry that this is the way that you escaped Ca :( .

I read the sad news yesterday morning.

The world is a much quieter place without his words of wisdom.

I wish they'd left Shooters up so we could read some of his old posts.

I read about Don's passing over at TFL.

Don and I butted heads any number of times @ shooters. I gotta agree though, he was the Mayor of shooters. Always first to greet newcomers, and always ready to help out.

I guess what I'm saying here is that a guy that can have an impact on somebody that wasn't what you'd call an on-line "friend" had a lot going for him.

My sincere sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
