Don't rely on your physical size

I had a girlfriend who's father was killed in a nice section of Nashville during a robbery. The reason he was a target was because he was in a section of town where you had to have money to go. I would think a pro player would be a natural target because they have money.

The rich get robbed not the poor.

I thought it was rather funny when I heard Chris Mathews (He used to be a DC cop too!) say in his TV show that Stern should institute a zero tolerance "NBA play will NOT be allowed to own a gun Period; Not just a ban on guns in NBA venues". I thought wow! I listen to you, but I don't know who appointed you to the supreme court so you can pass your edicts against other people's rights! I am a nobody and I have protection, so why should they not have the same rights again? And while I agree with a lot of the stuff he says, I also disagree with alot of the other stuff he says. Same goes for republicans. I make my own mind up. I am an independent of sorts who listens to both sides of the argument. Regardless of everything that's been said about the NBA and guns, I think these guys need more guns not less. :neener:

I am disappointed Chris Mathews believes NBA players should be denied constitutional rights. It gives me a' chill up my leg'.

Not so! The poor get robbed 8-10 times more often that the rich. The poor prey on people in their own area. They rarely travel to the rich part of town to do their dirty deeds.

But to stay on subject - It really doesn't matter what size you are. A gun is a great equalizer, whether it's in the hands of the bad guy or the innocent person.

I could no more rely upon my physical size than Nancy Pelosi could rely upon her good lucks or Harry Reid his keen intellect.

As I used to say, "Common fisticuffs are for the laboring classes. That's why I carry a gun."

A gun is called the great equalizer for a good reason:

The old saying goes that God made men, but Sam Colt made them equal. Col. Samuel Colt's revolver continues to serve as an equalizer. Being bigger, tougher and meaner than the next guy may not mean jack spit if the next guy carries a .357 in his waistband.

"Federal and local authorities are looking into criminal charges, particularly possible violations of the District of Columbia's strict gun laws."

Didn't like the article.

Made it seem like these guys have an excuse to carry guns where other ordinary citizens should not or cannot. The article seems to give credence to the idea that the rich and famous are somehow more justified in carrying illegally because of their high profile. They are entitled to a gun for self defense, but us commoners aren't.

Bullcrap.

You may have a duty to retreat in some jurisdictions but you're also not required to fight with anyone.

Unless you have the ability to take a heavy-weight punch and completely resist incapacitation, you need alternate means of defending yourself.
