Don't see many of these on Ebay

Probably 30-50 feet, depending on the material the can is made of. I've seen can launchers (both commercial and fabbed from a pellet gun) that used CO2 to provide the power, and really it's the can that determines how far it'll go. An empty can has low weight and high drag. I would NOT try to launch full cans of pop with it, although shooting them in the air WOULD be cool.....messy, but cool.

30 - 50 feet? Cool.

We're planning on using it for CO2 powered BB pistols. We've an acre of land to shoot on so it should be fine safety wise.

Don't know how the seller got away with it under their current pansy attitude to selling this sort of thing

Does the fact its in the UK change things? Don't know if its eBay worldwide policy or eBay USA policy.

BTW, there is another one on the UK site for sale ending in two days.

TexasRifleman I think the poster was referring to shooting at the tin can after it was launched. And in a small place like England that'd make sense unless at a Ministry of Defence range - large tracts of land used by the military (and civillians) for shooting purposes. However, low powered BB pistols should be fine.

As for the poster referring to things like this being OK with UK Ebay ... Lord no! UK Ebay is very restrictive these days. You can't even sell knives or swords on it these days. I think they're also planning to stop things like magazines judging from what a chap that just sold me a Lee Enfield cleaning kit was telling me. How on Earth nobody complained about his selling blanks I don't know. But I'm sure glad he got away with it. :)

I'm not comfortable with somebody buying a gun when their only experience with firearms has been through movies or video games.

No I was responding to another poster who freaked out and assumed this thing used real bullets.

Panic without actually looking at what this thing is.

Never shoot a tin can in the air with a rifle. If you miss the can the bullet can travel for 2 miles. :D Maybe that is what he meant to say?

I've never seen one of those gizmos. I want one.

I wish we'd had one when I was a kid because we wasted a lot of good firecrackers and cherry bombs launching cans into the air for targets. Yes, we shot them with .22s, but we had a mountain for a backstop. Actually 2 mountains, one at my grandfather's farm and one at my cousin's grandfather's farm.

It takes a sturdy can to survive a cherry bomb or M80 launch. We normally just used a 1.5" firecracker or two.

It's not a firearm or component, so I think that's why it's okay to sell their.

Wrong.

Any kind of ammunition, including blanks, are not allowed to be sold. That also includes flares/flare guns.

Also, the fact that it "shoots cans" means it fires projectiles so that would also be against the rules.

That is what I meant to say. Of course, even if you don't miss it can still do that, tin cans are quite flimsy.

I wish I had one of those though. Maybe I can get a slingshot to launch when I step on a string.

Most of the time the auctions that are pulled for violations of this nature are done after someone turns them in.

I don't think eBay employees have enough knowledge or the time to screen all the auctions for violation. They depend a lot on squealers . With the live blanks included in this purchase it would not pass eBays rules if someone had turned it in.

A good portion of the time auctions get jerked that don't break the rules, but someone turns them in anyway, and eBay doesn't know any better.

That is so cool! Your wife rocks!

I once shot at a mosquito in the air with a 40gr CCI subsonic .22lr. I missed. When the bullet came down in the next town over it leveled a school for the blind. 268 dead. Never again.

I would look for some of the "power loads" used to drive fasteners into cement to power the thing, and save the originals.

My understanding of those stud-setting blanks is that some of them are pretty umm.. "testicular," and probably shouldn't be used in this launching device.

More technical and interesting sidelights:

Ah, the good old days when you could fire a .30-06 in the air up at the Grasslands without worrying about where the bullet would end up --in the dirt. I did a little aerial shooting practice with a Ruger Standard up there many years ago but quit when I found out I was no good at it. Same problem as with beginning shotgunners. There's no feedback until you actually hit the target by accident, and then you sort of have to remember what you did right.

Craigslist also has a policy against advertising firearms. But I've seen people get around it by simply posting something like "WTB SW 63." Very few Craigslist readers know what that means, but someone with a S&W Model 63 for sale does.

Looks like a training dummy launcher to me... mine launched a dog training dummy 100 feet or so when held at a 45 degree angle.

I'll bet the ammo is collectible. I would look for some of the "power loads" used to drive fasteners into cement to power the thing, and save the originals.
I'm with Larry. I would hold on to the originals. I don't know about the "power loads" he mentioned, but you might look into the .22 blank loads used to launch retrieving dummies. They come in different loads, so you might find one that works pretty close. In fact, your can launcher looks much like a modified dummy launcher, so I suspect those would work.

Another option might be the .22 blanks they sell for starter pistols.

(I really started typing this before Dr. Rob posted, I got distracted looking at dummy launchers. ;))

A friend reckons that you can get these blanks at the local fishing / airgun store so I'll check that out before using the originals. I'm betting I'll be needing more than 100 blanks before long anyhow.
