Door Gun Opinions

I would go with the ruger sp101 or possibly a S&W model 10/ or other k frame snubby or steel j-frame(model 36 ets.), I take it you wanted the short barrel for the close (doorway-style) range at which you will engage someone. The 642 is a good choice for carry but since you aren't going to pocket carry why opt. for the alloy frame? Why restrict yourself to a harder-to-shoot alloy frame gun, grab a revolver with a little more heft and a little better(bigger) grip. This will help you get a more accurate and faster follow shots. I personally just don't see any reason to go for the airweight when a heavier revolver will be easier to shoot and work just as well for the shoot range answer-the-door mission. Just my humble opinion by the way.

Iacabo,

I'm not knocking your choice of weapons here.
If a heavier revolver is what you choose for door duty,
then I respect your decision.

But just to respond to your statement,
I carry an airweight at home (24/7) because it is just that:
an airweight. I don't even know I'm wearing it.
It's comfortable and more than adequate.

(I just checked to see if it was there.)

If I was to wear my 65 all day, I'd know it was there. I'd feel its weight.

But with the 642, carry is effortless.

Knock at the door? It's on me.
Glass breaking at 1 AM while I'm working? It's on me.
Strange noise downstairs at 10 AM? It's on me.

If I'm in camp, outside of my normal walls, give me my 65 in .357 mag.

But at home, behind the walls, with larger guns (including rifles)
just steps away, my 642 loaded with +P is just fine.
No effort. Weightless it may as well be.

That's why I carry an airweight at home.

I suggested a heavier gun because I thought 45 guy was going to only keep the gun in a desk drawer and not on him. I now see 45 guy himself never said this and I got that from someone elses post, my bad I should read these things more closely.

Assuming you have exhausted other options and you have a need for this, I suggest a long barreled revo. You are not trying to conceal it on your persons and it is just as much a club as a gun. Single action black powder guns can be had cheaply and you can easily adjust load velocity to avoid overpenetration.

long barrel would be too hard to bring up fast & too much to control in close, dare I say the word  combat. Add to that I know nothing about black powder shooting. I think I'll check out the 642, and maybe possible SP101. What type of .38 ammunition would you reccomend for apartments?

Thanks
