I recently mounted a Meapro dot scope on a Rem 700 .223 prairie dog rifle . It is the illuminated reticle with center dot with no battery...uses the natural light to create the ilumination. Impressive technology. But, I'm writing to ask how you guys like the dot scopes. In the brief time it took me to zero the scope I am a total convert to the dot technology. I was amazed at how quickly the dot helped focus on the target. How do you like dots compared to cross hair??

I have a finer tapered crosshair reticle with a fine probably 1/8th MOA dot in a 6X Jap. Tasco LER scope that's on a Ruger Charger Kidd-barrelled setup i use for a walking prairie dogger, and I love it for this particular setup. But I really love subtention for shooting mostly and it's probably the only one ill ever have again.

I like them for hitting THINGS.
For shooting groups I still prefer crosshair-type reticles tho I don't actually shoot them any better, it's just a personal preference.

4 of my current scopes are floating dot in a cross, the rest are cross types.

A number of those have illumination, and i REALLY prefer the dot or floating cross and dot, to a standard crosshair or christmas tree.

I have a Leupold VX-R Patrol 1-4 on my AR15 service rifle. I like it for shooting at the black bullseye targets as I find it easier to center it than quartering the bull with crosshairs. The intensity is adjustable so that kind of controls the apparent size. I've become a convert to focusing on the sight (front iron, cross hair, or dot) once things get lined up as I squeeze the trigger. An illuminated dot makes that easy to do and you can be precise as long as the size of the dot is appropriate to the target.

Big thumbs up here.

I like the dot reticle scopes I have quite a bit. Mine are all Weaver models, EBX and Varmint EBX, plus one Nitrex TR2 (same as Weaver Super Slam) with a reticle that is like a Weaver EBX but much thicker. I'm not a hunter and don't have a need for thicker reticles, prefer thinner ones including all the way down to fine target reticles.

Weaver Varmint EBX in Grand Slam 4-16x44, which is thinner/smaller dot than the EBX but the difference doesn't show up much in these two photos.

I don't have an illuminated one, but I expect the Fire Dot or other similar type that illuminates the center dot would be excellent.

I have a Weaver Super Slam 2-10x42 and really like the EBX reticle too. Something about that dot.
