A friend was looking at getting a Pardini in 45acp with a Doctor Sight. The Doctor is German and is a red dot sight that mounts on the slide and weighs about an ounce. I mentioned to him that most of the competitors I see on TV are shooting guns with various dot sights mounted on the frame, and that I thought that having the sight moving back and forth on the slide wouldn't be beneficial to accuracy - this opinion isn't based on any real world experience.

Any opinions on if a frame mount is better than a slide mount?

thanks...

I've seen quite a few steel and bullseye guns set up with the dot on the slide. This is more accurate then frame mounting as the barrel follows the slide. The downside is that this can beat up the optic. Most IPSC guns I've seen that at one time tried slide mounting switched back to frame mounting

I have seen some scary accurate Open guns equipped with a C'More or a tube mounted to the frame. The slide mounted "heads up displays" are more of an attempt to lower the sighting plane than an attempt to increase accuracy.
