Been going through some of my dad's stuff (still alive @ 87) and I asked him about one of the many shotguns he has.

First one is a Stevens SXS. It was in pieces so I took it home and am trying to get it back together. Dad said he bought it at a farm sale 40+ years ago very cheap because someone had tried to blue the case hardened frame and turned it purple. Markings on the left side of receiver is StevenS and a flying duck. Right side is J. Stevens Arms, Chicopee Falls, Mass USA Patented April 20, 1915. There is no model number anywhere on it. It does have a 5 digit serial number with an H preference letter. It is a 12 ga. and has double triggers and extractors. 28" bbls. Wood is walnut. I am thinking is might be a pre model 311 but am unsure. Here is a photo of the receiver partially assembled. Kind of would like to know a model number just in case some of the parts are missing and to help get it back together.

Second gun is a Wards Hercules. This on is in 20 ga. No other markings on the receiver except for the serial number inside which starts with X then 5 digits. From what I can gather this is a store branded Stevens but I can't figure out the model number. It too has a case hardened receiver, ejectors but a single, non selective trigger. Walnut stocks, 28" bbls. Automatic safety (goes to safe when barrels are cocked). It is missing the buttplate. We bought this gun for 30 years ago at a garage sale for $20 but I've had it ever since. I think I shot it once. Back then it had a slip on rubber pad which has since rotted away. Would like to find a buttplate for it. Could this be another 311, pre 311 or 511? Not seen those with single triggers however.

Neither of these are high end shotguns so value is not important. They will likely never be sold. Just curious about what they actually are.

The Hercules from Wards was made by Stevens. If it had read Hercules Grade, it Would have been an Iver Johnsons.

Both those guns look a lot like the one they later called the Model 315. Gun Parts Corp. (www.gunpartscorp.com ) may still have some parts, depending on what you need. The Model 311 is a (concealed) hammer gun; the 315 is striker fired, so that is an easy way to distinguish if you have the guns apart.
