I'm in trouble. I find myself shopping around for a 10MM 1911 style pistol and dont know which one I want. I did miss an opportunity for a Kimber TLE in 10MM and am kicking myself for that one.

Of the two mentioned above, give me pro's and con's if you have had experience with them.

The Double Eagles were horrible and sold so poorly it was hard to believe (I ran a gun shop when they came out, and I wanted to like them). A frequent complaint was that their triggers would pinch the shooter's finger when fired.

Delta Elites are good - there are websites out there with lots of info on them.

Congrats on your wise decision to purchase a 10! :)

Hmmm....gee.....THE quintessential 10mm on a JMB platform or that notorious freakshow, the Double Beagle.....

I don't know. I just can't decide.

:)

Lennyjoe--If you want to get together a group shoot here in AZ, I'll bring my Delta Elites and let you fire away until you make up your mind. It should only take a couple of mags.

I was also thinking of getting a Delta Elite, but I was worried about a. the cost of replacing certain parts (like the beavertail safety and the mainspring housing, purely for feel, not for worry about breakage) and b. the prices people are charging for models in new or like new condition (yes, I checked Gunbroker and GunsAmerica). Then Kimber came out with the Eclipse Custom II in 10mm, which are still available. I pick it up in a week and a half.

The Double Eagle had a terrible double action..the release point was too far forward allowing a lot of trigger travel after the hammer was released...was very hard to shoot accurately..

stay with the Delta..very nice gun..

You know what, me and Denfoote were talking about getting another THR shoot together either in Phoenix metro area or down here sometime in July.

Oh my, them Kimbers are sexy!!! :D

DELTA ELITE!!!!!!!!!! all the way....... after all it is still a 1911!

I have handled but never live fired a Double Eagle.
Not for me....and certainly not one of Colt's better ideas!

In a word the Double Eagle is/was a "goatsex" !

....edited for the sake of my member status!

Hey man, I just got a Delta Elite. It needed a little work. I sent it to Colt to replace the front sights. I bought a new guide rod. Otherwise, it shoots like a gem. I hand load pretty hot loads and the Delta Elite loves them. It handles the recoil so much better than my Glock 20. If you can find one--jump on it.

The Double Eagle was discontinued shortly after it was intorduced, there's got to be a reason. I really wanted to like the officers version but the overwhelming negative comments about this gun changed my mind.

Hey Lennyjoe-let me know if you and Denfoote decide on another Phoenix get together. I'd like to attend if at all possible, it would be great to see you guys again. Mike

As the story goes, a 1911 and a Sig Sauer both got very drunk and ended up having carnal knowledge of each other. As a result, the Double Eagle was born. Like any hybrid, it had elements of both parents but in a strange combination. And unlike some hybrids, it effectively had no use except as a sideshow attraction.

The 1911 and Sig Sauer never discussed their brief liason nor the product of their drunken urges.

I have one of each and the Double Eagle is a POS....the only reason I'm keeping it is to keep my 10mm collection together. Go with the Delta.

Ya know what? I have Kimbers, Rugers, Colts, and a Rohm . I started my L.E. career carrying a Double Eagle. Its all I had for the first 8 years. I got pretty good with it and it was 100% reliable. Not a really good looking piece, but I shot it well and the business end of a .45 will get a bad guys attention.

My only complaint was the double action trigger pull for the first round. I've heard some folks complain about the double action mechinism being placed under the grip panel, but I never had a problem. Its not a 1911, but it wasn't meant to be one either. I liked the squared-off trigger guard and the checkering on the front of it.

Still have it too; even after upgrading to a Kimber.

To each his own...
