Double Strikes?

Hello.

I was shooting my Heritage Arms revolver today with Aguilas Super Colibri ammo. As I was ejecting the cases, I noticed it looked like they were being hit twice, the one to the left being slightly smaller. I guess that the recoil pushed the hammer back, and as it came forward again it struck the firing pin again but with not as much force.

Does anyone else experience this with any of their revolvers? Is this a defect that should be fixed?

Thanks!

RECOIL? With Super Colibri? :what:

There's no recoil with that stuff.

In any event a real double strike would just result with the second hit right on top of the first.

Something else is causing the marks.
Close up, detailed photos would help us immensely.

Your right about there beingno recoil. I guess the hammer could just be bouncing back and hitting the case again.

I dont have a camera worth even trying to get pictures of this. All I can really say is that all of the cases have a smaller, weaker strike on them, to the left, and some are further away than the others. They are also hitting about 50% higher than the original strike.

The cylinder does have a little side to side movement, but looking at the fired bullets, it doesnt seem to effect them much.

Thanks!

A hammer that was able to "bounce" back far enough to leave a separate mark on the primer would have a mainspring too weak to fire.
So in other words it's nigh near impossible.

IF the hammer were hitting the rim a second time, especially IF it was "bouncing" it would hit in the exact same spot.

Photos of the double struck rounds as well as the recoil shield would be very helpful.

Something else is leaving that mark.

Perhaps you have a burr or ridge on the recoil shield that is leaving a mark when the round is fired.

Take some fired rounds, reload then into the cylinder, make sure you rotate them 180º from where they were originally fired.
The "shoot" the cylinder again.
Are the marks still there?

I only had one LR case around, so I loaded it and pull the trigger. After looking at the case, it looks like it did the "double strike" or whatever is happening but it didnt do it as much as the other cases.

I also looked at a few WMR cases that I had saved and they didnt appear to have the problem until I looked at it under a magnifying glass. So, it happens with the WMR, but it isnt nearly as bad.

Like I said, my camera is extremely low quality, but I will try to take a few pictures and will post them later.

Thanks for your help.

Well, while I was taking pictures, I noticed that there is a great possibility that the firing pin channel might be cuasing the weird strikes. It looks like it would touching the spot on the cases where the marks are, and is the same shape too (circle). I still dont know why it is only doing it on the left and not right though.

I took some pictures, but when I was in the process of hosting them I couldnt find them. :banghead:
