Double Tap Ammo

Does anyone has any experience with Double Tap Ammo. I've been considering giving it a try in several calibers, but have never heard anything about it, good or bad.

Performance wise, it seems to be the hottest stuff out there. 50 fps faster and 39 ft/lbs more energy in .357 Sig compared to Cor-Bon (same bullet weight). Same difference in energy compared to Buff. Bore (115 gr DT vs. 125 gr. BB). In addition to the numbers, DT uses Speer Gold Dots, vs. a gereric JHP.

Price wise, it is much better than premium ammo. $30/50 rnd. That is in the range of UNC and WWB fmj loads.

Any info would be greatly apprechiated. Good and bad is wanted.

I like it. I shoot it and carry it often in my 357sig. It's just as accurate as Golden Sabre or any thing else with a lot more punch. You can really tell it when you pull the trigger. I carry the 125gr gold dots in it for SD. In the woods I carry the 147gr Gold Dot. It is also loaded in my 38 special, 125gr Gold Dots. In my 380 I carry the 102gr Golden Sabre but I like shooting the Double Tap gold dots the most because of the extra punch it gives it. All in all I trust Double Tap Ammo and consider it to be a premium ammo in my opinion.

Double Tap makes some good stuff. I like their loads for harder to find cartridges like 10mm, .357 sig, .45 Colt +P, etc. I find if you have something real common (9mm para., .45 acp), you can do better pricewise, but regardless, the product is tops.

I just got an order of DOuble Tap
of what I have found to be a good carry HD/SD
option for my Model 60, CZ 75B 1911 & S&W 625

.38 SPecial +P 125 gr. Speer Gold Dot JHP 1175 FPS
9MM Luger +P 147 gr. Speer Gold Dot JHP @ 1,135 FPS
.45 ACP 200 gr. Speer Gold Dot JHP @ 1,125 FPS

THe .38 and 9mm run $27.95 / 50 rds
.45 ACP is $31.95 / 50 rds.

This is significatnly cheaper than buying the Speer Gold DOt
loads from Speer in the 20 rd boxes, and I live only 25 miles from the
SPeer plant in Lewiston, even with S&H I get DT that iloaded hotter
for the SPeer Gold Dots as well I find the DT ammo as advertised
to be much less muzzle flash.

FYI - Double Tap got it's start offering 10MM Aujto loaded to it's
potential and not dummied down like most of the big 4's original
ballistics. You might also note if you order some Double Tap doesn't
use their own head stamp, it's Starline which is as good a brass as
you can buy.

FWIW - The CorBon conventional JHP ammo uses Sierra JHPs which
I have found in bullet performance to be the poorest in terms of
penetration/weight retention That said, Corbon DPX with the all copper
HP is Top Drawer performance but it is very spendy.

I would also add for the O.P. don't get hung up on Ft Lbs of energy but
consider the quality of the bullets in the load/make you're considering.

I looked at Double Tap rifle ammo in 7MM Rem Mag for my Bolt Action. They offer premium Nosler bullets which are proven game getters.

I've shot a few thousand DT 10mm loads, and a couple of boxes of DT 9mm. I've been very impressed with both. When I need factory loaded premium pistol ammo, I consider DT first. "Matter o'fact, my CCW today was a 10mm 1911 loaded with DT 155gr Barnes X bullets.

Thanks for all the responses, I guess this will be my post election buy on ammo. I'm pretty well stocked in most everything other than SD/HD ammo.

And yes blindjustice I was considering bullets. I've always had excellent preformance out of the Gold Dots, I'm just tired of paying the $1 per round premium price. On the rifle side I've heard good things about Accubond just have yet to give it a try. And Woodleigh Weldcores are one of the original premium bullets. Been around along time with no changes to construction, there arn't many other bullets that could say that.

I use there stuff and find it to be excellent. They load their rounds within saami specs and don't "neuter" them like so many others do.

DT .40 cal 155 gr is my carry ammo. I really like it.

I've shot a bit of DT ammo in .40 S&W and I am impressed with it. They are also the only ammo mfg. I have found that loads a 200 gr. bullet for the .40, and their 200 gr. WFNGC hardcast load makes the .40 a very viable caliber for woods defense.

I am a big fan of DT ammo, especially in 10mm. I've also shot their 454 casull, 45 colt+p, and .375 H&H. All good stuff, though I did have one .454 casull round that was not seated properly and caught on the forcing cone of my revolver. I will say I didn't care for the 9mm+P though. In my wife's G17 it seemed to recoil excessively and I swear it seemed to shoot low.

I love DT in most of my guns, even my little P3AT. However, for some reason the 40 is soo hot that it caused FTF's in my Kahr MK40. Almost flew out of my hands once! A couple mags of the stuff and I was done. Just too hot for the little gun (or me!). I would NOT try it in the PM40! The DT 40 works fine in my somewhat bigger XD40SC.

I have DT gold dots in all of my CCW's. I have shot their .38, .357, .40, .45 and 9mm.

Mike Mcnett that owns DT ammo, is very nice guy. Easy to deal with, and willing to answer any question. The ammo is clean and HOT. I also have the 147gr for my .357 SIG. Dont think twice about using it.

I carry the GD 230+p .45 and GD 124 +p 9mm. I just shot the .45 @ 50 yards and got 3 shots inside about 4" from a USP. I think I may have the same problem as ccsteffler with the 9mm so I'll try it a bit more next time or just use the Speer GD 124+p I have. Don't believe the all the #s from the DT website. I've read pretty much everywhere that you should expect about 50fps less than what is on the box (in most cases that is still very respectable and I'm still happy). I chrony'd the 124+p 9mm GD some time ago and got about 1260 from the USP. This was still ~30fps faster than the Speer +p and obviously more than 124 HST. The 240 .44mag from DT is fun to shoot and accurate in my 7.5" S&W and if I get a chance, would love to try it on a hog.

Double Tap has great products. I buy all of my 10mm auto rounds from them and they are "premium" loads. The price is reasonable as well.
