DPMS 204 owners

I am getting a DPMS 204 and they are putting all the goodies on it for me and i have a scope picked out. I like the 40 grain hornadys alot better than 32 for my use. on there websight they say that the gun is designed for the use of 32-36 grains bullets since it has a higher twist rate and i was told that the higher twist wouldnt stabalize the 40s. So my question for you is do you shoot 40 grain and if so does it shoot good and if you have had problems lmk because i am going to get alot of ammo soon so i need your help thanks.

Its probably a 1 in 12" twist, which is standard for the 204. That twist is optimized for 32gr bullets. Some rifles will shoot 40's, others won't. You just have to try it out. Otherwise you can look into a faster twist rate and get into the 40-45gr bullets.

well i didnt realize my m77 204 had 1 in 12 twist and i have been shooting it since it came out

I don't get what you mean. Your M77 shoots 40's fine? A lot of rifles do. But a lot of rifles don't.

i just found out that my m77 has a 1 in 12 twist and i shoot 40s so i guess i should be able to shoot 40s out of the dpms i am getting so thanks for the help

That doesn't mean the DPMS will shoot 40's. I am not trying to be negative here, but every factory 204 I have seen or even heard about is a 1 in 12" twist, and it is a fairly universal acceptance among the 204 community that a rifle liking 40's is hit and miss. Because your M77 likes them, doesn't another M77 will like them, or that the DPMS will like them. And given that DPMS said it is optimized for 32-36gr basically says they are aware of this. Its just buyer beware. If you are 100% set on shooting 40's with this rifle, call and ask if they can give you a faster twist rate. Otherwise you might have a rifle that bugeyes with 32's, but peppers with 40's.
