I’m building an AR-10 from a DPMS L308 lower. The rear takedown spring and detent is kicking my butt!!

This lower doesn’t have the hole behind the retaining plate for the buffer tube. Instead, it has a hole on the inside of the right-hand hole for the pin itself. You have to insert the spring and (somehow) the detent, then slide the takedown pin in. The photo shows the spring in place.

I’ve tried everything I can think of, but it’s a crazy-tight space to work in. Is there some DPMS trick that I’m missing to make this work?

Thanks!!

Doesn’t it go in with the pistol grip? Upside down, Drop it in, the the spring? Been a while since I built one. Don’t even have one anymore. Others will comment with more experience than me.

That was it!! Every video I found showed the spring and detent going in for the buffer tube end. I already had the grip and safety selector installed. I should have noticed the extra hole when I installed them. It took some juggling, but I was able to get the takedown spring and detent and the safety selector, spring, detent and grip all on!

Thanks!!
