Does DPMS use proper "F" height FSB's on their flattop models, or do they use A2 height FSB's (like Bushmaster).

This morning I bought a 16" DPMS with "A3" flattop and M4 stock. For what its worth, I cant find any markings whatsoever on the FSB. I'm trying to figure out what type of iron sight/carry handle I need.

If this gun has "F" height FSB, I suppose I can use just about any BUIS or carry handle. If it has an A2, I could use the removable carry handle (sitting in a closet) off of my Bushmaster.

If anybody knows definitively which FSB height DPMS uses, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Where is the F or other marking?

I just looked at my FSB and it has a diamond and a 2.

I have the same question, though not about a DPMS in particular.

You'll know if its a problem if you use a carry handle and have to turn the front sight post out to the point where the base of the front sight pin is well above the surface of the FSB to get it to zero. FWIW, DPMS sells an extra- tall front sight pin to correct for this problem- not sure if its to correct for their own rifles or for rifles of other manufacture.

Well, according to a guy over on AR15.com, the DPMS uses a A2/rifle sized FSB rather than an "F-marked" sized FSB.

Just to be sure, I guess I'll have to go to the range and figure this out the hard way.

Geez, who in hell came up with a dual standard that's almost indistinguishable to the naked eye and only .040" different?

Oh yeah, the military...

I wouldn't blame the military too much. With different sight radii, different sight heights would be needed, the problem is compounded with a detachable rear sight which sits slightly higher than a fixed carrying handle. Its either use a taller front sight base or a shorter rear sight...

Its just sort of cheesey that manufacturers going after civillian sales can't spend an extra dollar to put the correct sight base on a rifle or carbine. It causes a problem that is very difficult to fix for the end user.

Agreed. I dont see why everybody doesnt use F-marked bases on flattop uppers.
