I got really excited when I saw this new model from DPMS, and I think it will be an out-of-park home run for them, as the word gets out. It's really not any larger/heavier than most 5.56 guns and is not very expensive, to boot. I'm a very big fan of the mid-range calibers like 6.5G, .300 Blk and 6.8 SPC, but this one gets my heart thumpin' again for a 7.62.
The only negative I can see in it is a slightly higher purchase price and ammo costs, after the buy. I've also noted that recently prices have come down on some decent quality/brand 7.62 ARs to the point that you can get one (with some judicious shopping) for around the $700 to $800 price point, and very few 5.56 models will beat that. Of course you pay a weight penalty in anything 7.62 other than the GII. I'm not a fan of 5.56 at all, and the only reason(s) I would even consider one is ammo availability, a long gun for my wife in my absence, and the ability to change to it to a mid-ranger, via an upper (or upper/barrel/bolt group, depending on model/caliber) change. What do you think, guys?
