After reading the following review, http://www.dpmsinc.com/pdf/Gun_Tests-DPMS.pdf I decided to purchase the DPMS LR 308. Any downsides I should be aware of? Any better alternatives? Thanks.
Well, it's an AR-10/.308 AR-15 style rifle, with everything good and bad that implies.
Expect good ergonomics and accuracy.
Personally, I'm more of an STG-58/FN-FAL guy, and I do believe there are some advantages over an AR-10 style piece, but your DPMS will probably have both an inherent accuracy edge and a better trigger than almost all FALs. On the other hand, you can probably find an absolutely great FN-FAL for a bit less.
When I was shopping around last year, internet rumor (I went with the Ar-10, so I can't confirm) was that the DPMS plastic magazine had some issues. I think they have started using metal mags that don't have the same problems, but if you are looking at a used one keep this in mind.
Again, this is only what I read when I was researching which gun I wanted. For the most part people seemed very happy with them.
