For those of us seeking to shoot well and cheap. I know, not easy.
I offer the following: The 10 round group shown below was shot today at 100 yds, 88 deg, light wind, Harris bipod at the front, Mk 1, Mod 1 shoulder at the rear. No sandbags & my stock LR 308B. The heavy squares are 1" the lighter ones are 1/2".
The ammo was 308 Federal Power Shok 150 grain soft point. Right off the shelf at Wal-Mart for $14.95 per box (Use-ta be $11.95). The group was 2" higher and 1 1/4" right of my "standard ammo" point of aim. (std ammo is 168 gr Sierra HPBT Match bullet with 41.5 gr IMR 4895, Fed Match primer & RP brass, consistent groups of .68") This Federal ammo, has in the past shot just as well with this rifle and I've heard others mention that it does well in their rifles.
I tried other factory ammo, but nothing else, even at over twice the price came close, most of the others ran between 2" and 4" groups.
Of course, YMMV but I hope not.
