Be prepared to wait on DS Arms. I was able to order a DS Arms Bcg a while back from aimsurplus with no wait but they were in stock. I think the wait on uppers through them is months.

Why do you say PSA has "far" better quality?

Answered "Built from better/stronger/higher quality materials and parts for same same price, hard to beat."

Offhand, I by no means consider myself an expert, but I know a higher quality product when I see it. Here, allow me to clarify:

PSA uses FN Mil Spec or better barrels (mostly, depends on exact model), DPMS uses garden variety el cheapo mystery metal barrel blanks (generally). PSA BCG's are MPI/HPT tested, correctly chromed/phosphated, and bolt is made of correct 158 Carpenter steel. Tool steel extractor. Gas key is correctly staked as well and uses grade 8 bolts. Extension tube is Mil Spec on PSA, usually commercial on DPMS. Its like comparing a Humvee to an H2. They both look good on paper, but only 1 will get you there and back. DPMS is a plinker, PSA is a rifle you could bet your life on. Period. They are both available for about the same price. Its the original posters choice whether he wants a plinker or a mil spec fighting rifle for the same dollar. I have no real objective here other than to help educate. I'd hate to see a fellow purchase something, only to realize there is a better product available for the same price. Dont take my word for it, search the rest of the internet, the info is free and easy to read.

...most uppers have forging marks from just a few companies even the cheaper ones.
That forging mark only tells us who forged the raw upper. It tells us nothing of what components were used to build the upper: Most notably, the barrel, bolt and carrier, and the charging handle.

It tells us nothing of the quality of finish: Most notably the finish machining to turn it into a stripped upper prior to anodizing.

Nor does it tell us the build quality: Most notably proper fitment of the gas block to the barrel, fitment of the barrel to the actual receiver, and assembly of the bolt carrier group.

Long before the infamous "chart" by Rob S. on another forum, THR Moderator Emeritus Bartholomew Roberts posted the thread: 34 Ways to Cut Corners on Manufacturing an AR15. That thread, and links tomany other informative threads are located in a Sticky at the top of this sub forum: THR Rifle Forum Reading Library _ Useful Links

Now that a few minor issues have been cleared up let's continue this as a civil discussion.
