Nothing too fancy. I finished getting it sighted in and put 16 rounds downrange for fun. I'll be the first to admit that I'm relatively new to centerfire rifles and not the greatest. Here's what I had at 100yd:

First 6 rounds took me probably a minute and a half to fire. 5/6 hit, 3 in the center 2" ring. Not too shabby, especially considering my lack of skill. I'm not sure if the one that didn't connect was a flier or if I just goofed. Probably the latter.

10 rounds much more quickly, all fired within maybe 45 seconds. Much shabbier. 8/10 technically "touching" the target sticker, 5/10 inside the 5.5" circle, 4/10 inside the 4" circle, none in the center 2" circle.

Now that I finally have it sighted, I can't wait to go out again and try to improve my skills. The rifle is so much fun to shoot, albeit a bit painful.
 
That's good shooting! Despite what the armchair quarter back will tell you here.

Any pics of the gun? What scope are you running? How do you like the gun?

Here's my previous thread where I detailed the acquisition of my specific rifle, including pictures of me holding it and of the rifle disassembled. I also included the specific model of battery that I lucked into finding for the original matched-serial PSO-1 that I use. Sorry I didn't link it in the original post. More specifically, Onmilo, just do a quick search for my threads. It shouldn't take you TOO terribly long to look through my impressive 17 post repertoire. I thought that I had joined a forum where people who enjoy weapons talk civilly about the weapons they enjoy. Oh well.

Like I said, I'm no marksman, but I'm slowly improving. It's overcoming that instinctive twitch that's the toughest part of getting consistent hits. The first target indicates to me that my milsurp ammo isn't too shabby for accuracy. We'll see how I can do once I get a couple hundred rounds of 7.62x54r under my belt.

edit: ratt-finkel: I'm using the original PSO-1. Fixed 4x with a wonky reticle. I absolutely LOVE the gun, but I have something of a love for "exotic" weapons. That's also why I carry a P99 (as opposed to an XD/M&P/Glock). The rifle kicks a bit, but it actually feels slightly less than my dad's old .303. The guy who had it before me put 2 recoil pads on.

To overcome the bad habits I'd suggest you lay hands on a good .22 rifle. I've been shooting them since forever and I put way more .22LR downrange than any other round. It's so cheap to shoot but keeps me close enough that I can usually pick up a centerfire and hone the edge back to its full sharpness pretty quickly.
Otherwise, I can say that I've seen many "hunters" show up at the range with scoped rifles that are probably capable of shooting 100 yard groups under an inch and still not do as well as you have on those targets.
It's been awhile since I've burned some powder with my favorite rifle and your targets are inspiring me to see if I can still match your performance. Maybe a THR wide online "postal" match is in order...
 
I second what Goon said get a .22 way cheaper to shoot and helps you improve every time you pull the trigger.Ken
 
Yep, take a .22 to the range every time. Any time you flinch with the Drag, lay it aside and shoot the .22 until the flinch is gone. That should lead to drastic increases in consistency.

Very nice....I too fall into the same trap of getting called out on what I have....I try now to post pics of everythign I talk about....unless I am real lazy :) Good looking Tiger you have there....I doubt that anytime soon they will be coming back into the US so you have a good investment there....better then any 401k these days....and you can take it out and have some fun with it as well...best of both worlds.
 
jpwilly: Sitting at a bench with someone's spare rifle rest made out of foam and duct tape.
 
Try shooting prone. You would be surprised at how steady you can get. Oh and if your looking for a good book to read that will give you some good tips on better marksmanship try "the art of the rifle" By Jeff Cooper. Nice gun man! :)
