Drawing From A Kydex Holster

At the risk of embarassing myself - - I sometimes find it difficult to draw from Kydex Holsters. I have tried a Fobus Belt Holster with a Ruger P90 and a Houston Paddle Holster with a FireStorm Mini 40.

I have to admit that more than half the time when I try draw, the holster lifts up with forward momentum of the draw but does not release the handgun (Kind of like giving myself a wedgie from the side

I have not had this problem with my blade-tech belt holster with my Betetta Brig (however my buddy has).

What am I (we) doing wrong?

That's kinda weird.

Have you adjusted the tension? The holsters could be holding the guns in there a little too tightly maybe?

I have a couple Blade-Tech holsters for my 1911 (IWB and belt) and the draw is very smooth.

I had the exact same problem with my Sidearmor.

I'm about positive that what was happening is that the pressure of being between my body and pants/belt was squeezing the holster shut, no matter how loose the tension screw was.

Not to mention that if you loosen the screw too much, it will fall out.

I fixed the problem by getting a quality leather holster from Milt Sparks (VM-2) that has a reinforced metal mouth.

I keep my Blade-Tech and Uncle Mike's kydex holsters with very tight tension. A firm pull straight out of the holster never fails to clear. The key is you need to be in the habit of making a crisp clean pull straight out.

All polymers are not equal.

Some weeks ago, I did a search throughout the Fobus website and couldn't find the word "Kydex".

IIRC Fobus uses the term "high density plastic".

Yet a few folks refer to their Fobus holsters as "Kydex". I wonder why.

The Kydex holsters I use have tension screws. All draw smoothly and quickly yet still hold the handgun securely.

Don't know if it's the polymer or the screws but I'm convinced not to use Fobus.

synapse ...... the ''secret'' if indeed it can even be called that is IMO .. twofold.

1] The draw MUST be very brisk .. to inertially break the piece free .... thus not bringing rig with the gun.

2] It must also be in the main axis of the rig ... not toward front or rear.

I have several Fobus, Kydex etc .. and for example .. retention in my Fobus for P95 or P97 is great .. no way will it ''fall out'' ... it does tho require this very brisk and purposeful upward movement - in line with rig .. and all is lickety split.

Practice this a bit - and see if it doesn't help the problem.

The Fobus Holster that I had for my P89 would do the sideways wedgie thing if I tried to draw it to slow. On the other hand if the initial movement was kind of quick it would pop right out. Sorta like pulling the table cloth out form under the dishes.

I have a Fobus holster and I had the same type of difficulty. I would pull with a nice brisk, snapping motion but my Walther still wouldn't clear the holster. I wiped the inside of the holster with rem oil and it comes out just fine. But after the rem oil wears off it is right back to a difficult draw. I don't know, maybe it is the plastic that is used in the Fobus that creates a surface tension that makes it difficult to draw.

What kind of belt do you have?

If you have a crappy belt, the gun will resist coming out of the holster because the belt will want to follow the gun, holster and your hand.

A good belt should help things.

I'm 100% with skunky here. BELT BELT BELT. The holster may be coming up because your belt is weak and flimsy. Ignoring the belt in carry and drawing is like ignoring sunshine in photosynthesis. Like an irish meal with no potatoes. Like Starsky and no Hutch. Like Dirty Harry and no .44. Like an Ala Dan post without ".45 caliber West German
SIG-SAUER P220A." Like a Standing Wolf post without ANTI-SECOND AMMENDMENT BIGOTS. Like Smith & Wesson with internal locks.

It can be done, it just isn't right.

I had the same problem with the Fobus.Switched to SideArmor and works great.My son now uses the Fobus for his Airsoft G17,he has the same problem with it.
