Drew Peterson's gun card revoked

My PERSONAL opinion, Mr. Moderator White . . . and I AM as entitled to that opinion as you are yours.

So you have no evidence? It's my personal opinion that he's probably guilty too, but I'm holding out for some real evidence to be released before I state that he's a 2-time wife murderer. In my world we don't try and convict people in the media.

I find it odd that on a forum where we constantly complain how the media seldom if ever gets the gun issue right, that we're so quick to credit them with being right on every other issue.

Nor do we in my world . . . but my opinion is that he had something to do with the demise of both women.. I sincerely believe the guy is slime & I hope he doesn't get away with a crime, although it appears he may have executed the perfect one. I also separate gun rights & those suspected of heinous acts . . . and refuse to defend them wholesale just because they were wrongly-cited regarding a gun matter. Oh, and I don't watch sensational media such as Nancy Graces or Greta Van whatever . . . I'm not crediting the media, so please don't infer that from my stated personal opinion. For what it's worth, I believe OJ was guilty as sin, also . . . the law, such as it is, believed otherwise. We can judge, right, wrong, or indifferent . . . we just can't convict.

My gut tells me that Peterson is probably guilty as the devil. But where we differ is that I think the gun charges are nothing more then a response to the national media coverage. If this case wasn't all over cable news and I bet someone's already working on a screenplay, the short AR barrel wouldn't be an issue. I don't know how it could be an issue. The statute clearly exempts peace officers from those provisions of the deadly weapons act. This was the Will County States Attorney's attempt at damage control because I'm sure the cable news crime divas would have given him all kinds of bad press if they had to return his firearms. Stretch the law, revoke the FOID and there you have it, you look good on cable news.....

Jeff

And you may be absolutely spot-on . . . it also could be borne of frustration . . . LE gets fed-up with the "law," too. Someday he'll meet The Judge who will Know. . . Peace.

The guy, by all measures, looks to be a flippin' werewolf for gosh sakes--and certainly someone I would not suffer around me and mine.

But the stupid little (MAYBE) SBR is the least of my worries.

And, OK, we all KNOW that charge will go away, and that he has no FOID now.

But he's out on bail--free to breath the air and walk about--and how has any justice been served or threat removed?

We keep giving this mo-mo more energy to keep going, and drink in his utter repulsiveness to his obvious delight.

While we watch his circus unfold--what are we missing?

The legal-media circus around this case is sickening.

If the LEOs & prosecutors don't have enough to make a case, they need to desist.

A guilty man then might go free. Well, this is an imperfect world, but I am not willing to sacrifice all the protections in the COTUS and let such a media-legal mess be turned on other citizens when they are done savaging this dead horse.

Somebody in the executive or judiciary needs to say, "Enough."

UPDATE: FoxNews is now reporting that a photo has surfaced of Drew Peterson carrying the "weapon in question" while on duty, as part of a protective detail for John Travolta.

It is my personal opinion that Drew Peterson deserves to rot in prison, but this is not the way to go about it. Lock him up for the murder(s) of his wife/wives, not bogus weapons charges.

Jeff White hit the nail on the head. This is nothing but a dog-and-pony show put on by the IL State Police for the media, to make themselves appear to be doing something productive.
