A friend of mine says Don Kilmer is going to run a petition drive to add the RKBA to the California state constitution. No link as yet. He'res what he wrote me, though:

Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Initiative Constitutional Amendment
Summary Date: 01/20/04 Circulation Deadline: 06/18/04 Signatures Required: 598,105

Proponent: Donald Kilmer (408) 998-8489

Amends the California Constitution to add a personal right to require and possess arms for defense of self, family, and home. Requires state to prove a compelling government interest for any action regulating the keeping and bearing of arms. Provides that all county, city, and local government action on this subject is preempted by state law and this amendment. Allows the state to continue regulating the acquisition or possession of arms by felons, minors, mentally incompetent persons, or persons subject to restraining orders based on their violent conduct. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local governments: This measure would result in unknown, potential costs to the state and unknown net fiscal effects on local governments.

Anyone know something about this?

Oh my G*d!!! There is only 3 months left to get the signatures in!!!

How many gun shows between now and June? :D

Here is the url for downloading the petitions. Separate one for each county. No instructions though.

Fighting for what's right is a good thing...

Fighting a battle that's lost before it even starts is a waste of resources best used elsewhere. :banghead:

Satan has a better chance of becoming the supreme being than the RKBA amendment as written has of being passed in The Socialist People's Republik of Kalifornyietsky :what:

It would have to be placed on the ballot in an off-year election where there are no other controversial measures up for vote. November would not be good. Democrats are extremely lazy and uncommited as a voting block. ( don't mean that in a BAD way)

"Satan has a better chance of becoming the supreme being than the RKBA amendment as written has of being passed in The Socialist People's Republik of Kalifornyietsky"

While that's true, the fact is that at the state level these things seem to be nearly useless anyway. For example, Massachusetts and Hawaii, both gun-control wastelands at least as bad as California, both already have such provisions in their constitutions.

I think that we can do this.

The proposition is written in common sense english, and could only means self defense for law abiding.
I think that we need to go through more than just gun shows though to get the required number of signatures for this.
I wish that there were instructions on where to send the completed forms.
The GS2AC is not harping on this too much, even though Don Kilmer is involved in that group, or at least, the group it was prior.

Don't be cowered by anyone here. If you want to do it, do it. No matter if it is successfull or not it is another strike on the head of the nail, and eventually it will be enough. The anti's have really cultivated a tight leash around the psyche of our community. Again I ask....why is this when WE have the guns? No need to answer...just a rhetorical question.

Fair enough. God knows, the antis have no problem piling on innumerable toothless restrictions on the RKBA. As before, I'll be glad to sign and circulate any petitions on this, but someone *does* have to let us know where to send the things.
