I know the general rule is don't dry fire a .22 because it could damage the firing pin and put a burr on the chamber. For many .22s, this is true. For the Ruger 10/22, it's okay to dry fire, they say so in the manual, because the firing pin will not actually hit the chamber wall when dry firing.
My question is whether anyone knows whether it is safe to dry fire a Marlin 795 .22 rifle? The owners manual says nothing about dry firing. Anyone really look at how it's build and know whether it's safe or not?
I've seen posts here and there from people who say they have been doing it and haven't seem any problems, but I'd really like more of a technical reason for or against based on the 795's design, rather than opinions.
