Aftermarket stock for Marlin 795?

I'm getting a Marlin 795 and I was wondering what kind of aftermarket stocks are available for it. The Marlin 795 is supposed to be a really accurate rifle out of the box (way more than the Ruger 10/22), but it just feels so chintzy! Putting a nice wood or laminate stock on it would make it look as nice as it shoots. So, anyone know what kind of stocks are available?

I've also gotten the Tech sights and a Turner M1907 sling for the 795, so it should be perfect for an Appleseed-type event.

It sounds like you have a great Appleseed set-up. Look for a Model 70 stock at Numrich's or a Model 60 stock from Boyd's. You will need to plug the end of the forearm on the 60 stock and rework the 70 stock for the LSHO feature.

Can you give me a little bit more details on what you mean by reworking the stock? I assume that when you talk about plugging the end, you're referring to where the tubular magazine that is on the other model would go? And as for LSHO ... I assume that means Last Shot Hold Open, but what does that have to do with reworking the stock? It's kind of frustrating that no one just makes an aftermarket stock for the 795; is it really that new?

Also, I'll probably need some extra mags for the rapid fire strings, but all I can find are factory replacement parts online, and they are expensive! If I'm going to go that route, I might as well just call up Marlin directly and order two or three extra mags through them. That's probably cheaper.

I just ordered a factory brown laminate 795 stock from Numerich. At least they say 795. I am having a hard time finding info on if the stock is in fact a 795 stock with room for the LSHO or it is a 70 stock. I figure at around 50 bux with shipping, might as well give it a shot.

I get the stock next week, I will let you know.

Mine is an SS, so if it works out I am going to order up the Rimfire Technologies aluminum trigger guard and Tech Sights and I think I will have a pretty slick looking rig.

Well it came today:



I think it looks pretty good. It feels much more substantial but not that much heavier. As you can see, it is about 3/4ths of an inch longer in the fore end. It came with a Marlin plastic butt plate fitted. The only downside is you lose the sling swivel studs. For me, this is a bench-riding range fun gun, so I don't much mind, but for an Appleseed I think they could be easily installed. The wood is also very "proud" around the trigger guard.

Out of the cardboard box, I was like "uh oh" because the inletting didn't look exact and it has a spare screw in the wrist behind the trigger guard. But low and behold, I dropped it right in with zero fitting. I didn't have to take wood out for the LSHO.

It has a very tiny chip out of the edge of the grip "cap" area, and overall was very dusty and had a bit of dirt on it - like it had been in the back of a warehouse. But nothing that has me upset. I think it was $43, I can't be angry. I can't tell if it has a "Marshield" on it. Looks unfinished. I bet you could probably oil finish it to your desire.
