I usually store my Remington 870 PM with the "bolt" closed (empty of course) then dry fire the gun. When I dry fire for practice I always use A-Zoom snap caps.

Can this small amount dry firing without caps be bad for the firing pin over time? Or so negligible I shouldn't worry about it?

In the early 80s, a story circulated that dry firing an 870 in sub zero temps would cause the firing pin to break on occasion.

As of this date, I've seen exactly one pin so broken.

IMO, not an issue....
