has anyone ever tried using a dry lube to refinish a whole gun? It's not a super expensive or pretty shotgun and I wanted to ask before I went crazy and tried it. I know you are supposed to prep by light sandblasting with a fine medium and then clean it up. I was going to try break cleaner and then spray it. It's got great lubrication qualities and supposedly doesn't rub off to easy.

No I don't know of any "dry lube" you can use as a finish. It will rub off and probably make your hands slippery.. You want the lube inside, not outside. Get something made as a firearm finish like Ceracoat or similar. Many spray on and you bake them in the oven to harden the finish. This sounds like what you want. Check Brownells, Midway, ect for them. Good luck.

Sandstorm 28A isn't a finish. It's a dry film lube. Basically a non-oil based preservative. Called a Lacquer by some retailers. It doesn't refinish anything. At $25US for a 16 ounce spray can is expensive.
Break cleaner is a degreasant/carbon remover.

Dry lube is a wonderful thing, but it's not what you want for a finish. Get something like Duracoat, Ceracoat or GunKote.
