I'm needing a good, coated cleaning rod like Dewey, Bore Tech, etc.

For a standard bolt action rifle with a 22" barrel, would 36" or 44" work better?

Smart move getting a good cleaning rod. I highly recommend a rod guide also to keep the rod straight in the barrel. You'll need about 10" - 12" extra in length for the guide, so a 36" rod will work just fine.

Also the Otis flexible rods are nice and compact. The whole kits are nice. A little pricey but you can find them for cheap and the whole kit can fit in a jacket pocket.

I'd go 36". I've got both and with shorter barreled guns the shorter one is the one I go to most of the time because it's less cumbersome to work with.
