Would I be better off going with a male or female dewey rod? The males have a thicker coating, however, they require an adapter. The one I'm looking at buying comes with a jag and adapter. I'm assuming this adapter converts the rod to 8/32 threads?

Also, do I need to buy a chamber rod...or can I ghetto rig this using something at home? Any cheaper alternatives? From what I've heard, the chamber rod doesn't need to be as good of quality as the cleaning rod, due to there being no rifling to damage, etc.

So far I've also read that bore-tech and kleenbore are decent. Good things about tipton carbon fibers too. Any thoughts?

Where is a cheaper place to purchase one of these as opposed to direct from the company? So far I've been told to order from Brownell's and Sinclair International.

Bore guides worthwhile?

This is to clean an ar-15, btw.

Thanks.

I use male ended Dewey rods. They come with the brush adapter so it's no big deal.

But I do use the female ended rods for service rifles. I have the 22CF30 for the AR and the 30CF25 for the Garand.

I think you're fine with either rod, male or female.

Not sure what chamber cleaner you are referring to, but I do have the Dewey AR chamber rod with a bolt lug brush. Worthwhile to have, but you could always use a regular rod with the AR bolt lug brush.

If you're cleaning an AR, I definitely recommend the Sinclair AR link:

I also use the delrin bore guide sold by Sinclair:

When you get into the higher dollar rods by most any maker, they're all high-quality, so it comes down to just personal preferance.

A bore guide is good to use, since it keeps dirty bore solvent out of the action area of the upper receiver, and serves to center the rod in the bore.

Brownell's and Champion's Choice are excellent sources of cleaning gear as is Midway USA:
