Is it customary to pay 100% of the price up front, before the background check/waiting period, or do you generally put down a deposit and pay in full when you take delivery of the gun?

I know I can/should/will call the shop I'm buying the gun from (The Gun Rack, for the locals), but I'm impatient :p

I know that On Target usually requires something like 25% down....and I've done other deals in MD where they just asked for a flat downpayment of something like $50.00.

I've done as above and I've done a purchase by paying the full amount......it's only a week difference, but it just depends on how the particulars of the finances go.

I only buy from one gun store so they know me quite well.........sometimes I pay 100% up front and other times I pay nothing until I'm ready to do the paperwork. The gun store I'm talking about is Scott's in Glen Burnie.

Nick, where are you looking at buying?

I usually just pay all the way up front, although every weapon with a waiting period I've bought (the Saiga 12 will be number 3) has just required a partial down payment. I think OnTarget and Gun Rack are 25%.

I'm gonna buy the gun from The Gun Rack. I called them today and they said they require 50% down. I was thinking about buying online, but when it came down to it, the price differences were negligible.

Well, today I put $250 down on a CZ-75 SA at The Gun Rack. They have a deal going on where they'll throw in a 15 round mag with any CZ that comes with 10 round mags and I'm also getting the rubber factory grips. My total price will be $555.99 after taxes and the grips. I still can't get over the fact that I'm paying $36 to big brother, had to fill out 4 forms that all asked the same stupid questions, AND have to wait a week to pick up my gun. I think if I were trying to buy it to do something bad all this beurocracy just might push me over the edge. I just hope I haven't twiddled all the skin off my thumbs by next thursday. :uhoh:

I've done it both ways. The guy I usually deal with now (Accurate Pawn) knows I'm good for it so he doesn't give me much grief unless it's a higher priced item.

And yes, Maryland sucks :banghead:
