Dunhams stuff

I've checked out the milsurps @ my local Dunhams. They had Mauser M48s and some Mosins and French pieces. The prices were GREAT! Except that the condition and quality of the milsurps were 1/2 grade above pure junque--In other words, in this, like so many situations, if it looks too good to be true, it is.

While I like a bargain as well as the next guy, and my friends will assure you that I'm a classic tightwad, I wouldn't have bought any of those Dunham sale guns I saw, if the price had been half of the low figure that it was.

Well, went there, and bought a tasco World Class scope.
Looked at the M-44's and had one left at 5:30 am.....it was a beat-up one with some big dings in the stock, got a raincheck for another one, so when more come in, I have a choice with the same price. Did that with my Romanian 22, and got a good one.
The CEMTE looked nice, but not in the market for one.
At least Dumhams has some C&R stuff, unlike some other chain stores. All the other gun stores in the area want a arm and a leg for their war horses....

At least you can look at them before you buy, unlike buying one from AIM or SOG...those are a pig in a poke!!!!

It seems that most of what Dunham's sells for C&Rs is either the bottom of the barrel grade from wholesalers, or way overpriced- at least in my area. That being said, they sometimes do get a few gems in, though it took me 2 years to find a MN worth buying from them and at the right price.

C&R's @ discount chains

Greg531--Right on both counts, @ least Dunham's does carry the stuff, and yes, you can look before buying. And both of those are real plusses.

Cracked Butt--Will continue checking my local Dunham's, and of course if they get a gem in @ their price I'll snap it up so fast their teeth'll rattle. Wouldn't put any $$ on that happening anytime soon, tho'.

What I'd really like to see is a Mauser M48 with a ruined stock and a pristine bore, that was mechanically good, but looks awful on the outside, that they'd let me have for a take-this-thing-outta-here-and-thank-you price. Boyd's does stocks for 'em, and there are a ton of Mauser add-ons that fit. And I don't have an 8mm in my battery. Yet.

Well, I can dream, can't I??? :D :D :D
