Duplicating Winchester White Box 22-250 45 gr JHP?

Hi folks, the title says it all!

I'd like to duplicate the Winnie White Box 22-250 loads.

I know both the WWB in 22-250 as well as the .223 both use a "45 gr JHP" bullet.

I've seen some difference of opinions on exactly which bullet that is, but the closest i can find is 46 gr HP's, which Midway and the like touts as "ideal for .218 Bee and .22 Hornet".

Does anyone have a starting point for trying to work up a close load?

The one's I've looked at carry a bullet that they don't offer to the public.

However, not all is lost.

The Sierra 45gr Varminter spitzer or the Hornady 45gr "Hornet" will come very close. My preference would be for the Sierra.

Be aware that the Hornady may not withstand the velocity of approximately 4,000fps that the WWB is run at. It's intended for the .22Hornet, but I've gotten good results with it from my .223 at ~3,500fps and a 1/12" twist. The 1/14" of the .22-250 twist may not be too hard on it.

I would try Varget or Reloader 15 for powder.

I've had very good luck with the Midway "DogTown" bullets with my Rem.M700 (.22-250) and H380 for about 3,850fps.
Works for me.

Why? The whole purpose of reloading is to tailor the load you your rifle.

Why? Because I like the velocity and accuracy of this particular factory load out of this rifle and it would make a great starting point for a handload.

Thanks goose for the info, I've also heard good things about the dogtown bullet, but that they break apart once they get around 4,000 fps. I may still try some!
