My future son-in-law is going to go to Park Ranger school in January. I need some suggestions for a good duty holster for a Beretta 92 and a duty belt. The requirements are really quite unclear in the class info he has. All my experience is with concealed or competition gear.

I would think that they would issue him one but if not I've used Bianchi, Safariland and Uncle Mike's. Go to their websites, they have plenty of info and models for you to choose from.

My agency issues a good holster, the Safariland 070, though I bought my own because when I bought a SIG P229 with a rail, they did not yet have any holsters for railed SIGs. (We buy our own pistols.) It is the gold standard for retention, yet allows a quite fast draw. I also buy my own belts, because our issued belts are cheap, floppy, low-bid crap. I have always used Safariland, with the velcro lining and matching under-belt, to minimize the need for belt keepers.

duty gear

Bottom line is you get what you pay for - the more money you spend the better the belt - If you guys can afford it go for the top - safariland is great - Gould & Goodrich is also good - there are others but it comes down to how much you want to spend - I personally have a mixed belt -my dept wont pay for the whole thing unless i want a bottom of the barrel belt - so i have pieced together a belt that works for me - most of it is G&G Phoenix - its a nylon sent that holds up real well - i also use a couple pieces of Uncle mikes and some other assorted things that i have acquired through the last couple of years - keep in mind that if a duty belt is used hard/everyday - it will probably start to wear out after just a few years - i have a piece that wore out the other day after only a year - you can get some items like Uncle Mikes to last awile but they sometimes look pretty tough in a short period of time - i personally would go with a nylon belt that is molded - G&G or Bianchi makes good molded belts - If you want something cheaper you can always start with used from E-bay or go to Quartermasters (i think its quiniform.com) they have a nice in-house leather line that i have used in the past - its cheap and looks good and will hold up until you can afford something better -

As far as the holster goes - get the best you can afford - No - spend as little as you have to on the belt so you can afford a good holster - personally i prefer the Safariland SLS holsters - for me its a natural draw and has great retention - you need to check a few out first because all of the security holsters have different types of draw - i recoment the SLS or the Raptor - both are great - the only reason i dont like the 070 from Safariland is because my hand feels off when i hit the second snap to get the gun out - i have a harder time getting the gun up for a good shot in that holster - You can get used holsters on e-bay for a good price or new an SLS holster in Fine-tac is under $100 -

good luck in your search
