I wanted to ask the pros if my duty gear is legal for IDPA or USPSA. I carry a stock Glock 31 in a Level 2 duty holster, snap mag holders, and (3) 15-round magazines.

I would like to enter my first IDPA or USPSA competition in January somewhere in SoCal and I want to try to get myself in these competitions at least once a month. Any info. about which classes are legal with my gear and any matches in January in the SoCal area is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I can't answer you but I believe I'd just gather up my stuff and head over there. Most shooters will bend over backwards to help. Even to the point where they'll lend you theirs if yours isn't right. Personally, I think you'd be smart to use your normal carry stuff. That's the best way to become most proficient with it. Good luck! :D

IPSC/USPSA rules make a note of allowing LEOs to compete with their "duty rigs", but they also specify that it's "all or nothing", ie. all snaps or buckles, etc., have to be fastened, and that shoulder-holsters are prohibited since they'd point a loaded firearm rearward of the 180-degree line.

Your good to go for uspsa/ipsc Production Division or Limited. If shooting production you will be limited to 10 rnds per mag so you will need more mags. You can shoot in Limited class with the 15 rounders but you will be up against guys shooting 1911 single action blasters. Again, you will need a few more mags. Have a great time...its the best!

That will get you into IDPA in SSP (Stock Service Pistol) and you may wear your duty gear as long as you wear ALL your duty gear. Gun, magazines, handcuffs, flashlight, stick, Mace, etc. You don't have to wear an expensive radio, though. Or you can dress as for offduty or plainclothes wear and conceal your gun and ammo like us ordinary folks.
You are limited to ten rounds in the magazine, plus one in the chamber to start.

You can wear your duty gear for IPSC as long as the match director considers it safe.

Check the club locators at idpa.com and uspsa.org for places to shoot.

Unless you have a cross-draw or shoulder-rig setup, you should be fine. USPSA does not require you to keep your non-shooting gear on (flashlights, handcuffs, taser) and does not allow more than one loaded handgun at a time.
