My dad has his heart set on getting a single action .357. He had a Hawes many years ago but he had to sell it and he has wanted something to replace it ever since. I suggested a Ruger Vaquero but he wants something with a 7.5 inch barrel and the longest they go is 5.5.
Arent the EAA bounty hunters made by J.P. Sauer? I think they are the ones who made Hawes guns so that woud probably be as close as you could ever come to getting the same thing. Anyhow, are these guns any good? Anyone know anything about them? Thanks.

I've got a J.P. Sauer & Son's "Hawes - Western Marshall" .44 Mag SA revolver (West German manufacture). Pretty good gun - but I've mostly shot .44 Spl's (not Magnums) from it. I don't think there is any relation between these and the EAA firearms (which I believe are produced mostly by Tanfogillio in Italy).

Your suggestion of going with a Ruger is very sound. I'm sure they have some sort of SA revolver available in the barrel length & caliber he wants. Ruger is overall going to be a much better choice in my opinion over any foreign manufacturer for this type of handgun.

Agreed. The Ruger would probably be a better gun. The thing is that he wants fixed sights and a 7.5 inch barrel. He won't budge. Ruger doesn't make that so it is out. My dad is a little backwards. He sort of thinks that technology stopped with the metallic cartridge.

Go with the Ruger. I've saw to many EAA Bounty hunters fail right out of the box. EAA and Sauer are to diffrent companies.

I bought nib Bounty Hunter in .357 awhile back. The first cylinder full went Bang. Bang. Click. Click. Click.Ckick. I tried several different brands of ammo. Same thing. Took it back to the dealer and he fixed it under warranty. It seems okay now but i've only put about 50 rounds through it.

My buddy has two .357 Bounty Hunters he uses for cowboy action shooting. He's had the same problem with them that i had with mine. One he's had in the shop twice.

He wishes he had bought Vaqueros.

Based on my shooting experience.... NO. Tell Dad ta buy a Ruger

What problems have you seen with them? I am trying to talk him into a Vaquero. Any ammuniton that you guys can give me will be helpful.
The only problem with the Vaquero is that they don't make a .357 with a 7.5 inch barrel. I just checked their website. A blackhawk would work but the man detests adjustable sights.
I don't want to see him buy a crappy gun. He is on a limited budget and it will take alot for him to save up to buy one. It needs to be a good one.
Are the Uberti 1873 replicas any good? What about the new revolvers from Beretta?
