EAA guns seem very affordable esp if you are economically challenged like me lol

Are these decent guns?

Do they make compacts or sub compacts?

Are they easily found as in do lots of gun shops carry EAA?

I don't own one, but for what it's worth, I plan to get a Zastava-series pistol (pretty mush a SIG look-alike) as soon as I have the money.

I personally have never heard anyone complain about them.

I have a 10mm EAA Witness and it is a damn fine gun. It has never malfunctione in any way the only downside is it recoils much more than my Glock 20 10mm. I like recoil though.

I have a EAA witness in .45acp and love it.
I also have an EAA Bountyhunter in .357, good gun, just don't like the transfer safety bar.

I had one that I shot a couple of thousand rounds through without a bobble.

I gave it to my son in law who gets LOTS of 'free' M-882 ball. He has fired it so many times on more than one session that it blistered his hands.

The gun appears to have as many lives as a cat and has never malfunctioned.

Not the prettiest or best finished gun around, but a definite keeper. I sure wish I could get another one at the price I paid for this one, $200 with 4 mags.

Very reliable & sturdy sidearms. I was highly impressed with the M88 I tested, and their price makes them even more attractive.

Well

Are these decent guns?
EAA doesn't make guns. They are simply an importer (and supposedly CS agent). They can be good guns. Tanfoglio does turn out way more lemons than what I would consider the industry standard (SIG, Glock, Ruger, etc.).

Do they make compacts or sub compacts?
Yes they do make a compact Witness. No subcompacts that I am aware of.

No they are not. IMO, the main reason for that is that EAA is a horrible company to deal with. Gun shops around me make a point of not stocking their firearms because of dealings in the past with EAA. To quote one dealer, "They lied about things all the time". That's been my experience with them as well.

The Witness Elite Match are one of the best guns for the money on the market right now.

The regular Witness are pretty good too but .45ACP is the safest bet, as the other calibers can have mag issues, if you get good mags you will be thrilled, if not they can be fixed and since the guns were cheap its not so frustrating to have to futz with them a bit. But for the ~$100 more the Elite Match runs above the Standard, its a far better gun, in terms of fit, finish, accuracy easily the equal of $800+ guns from the competition.

Biggest hang up is EAA customer support is pretty marginal, I got very fast turn around fixing my 10mm compact cracked slide, but I should have only had to send in the upper which would have been cheap as its not a firearm (since wth the Standard Witness interchangeable uppers is one of their "features") but they insisted I return the entire gun at my expense, they did throw in a "free" mag in return. But $50 FedEx for a mag I could buy from Reed's for $20 + S&H is not a deal.

No experience with the SIG and TOK clones, although I'd probably get one of the Tok clones in 9mm when I see it. Since I dis-like DA/SA operation I've zero interest in the SIG clones.

I'm also intrigued by their FCP which was in the 2007 catalog but I've never actually seen an example of one.

i own a witness custom gold elite and it is great and plus the service is awesome

10mm witness full size here.

I think recoil is a subjective thing, as I don't like shooting
a Glock 10, but my gun is just fine.

MOST Witness guns are good from the box, but with an almost 10 years database on the guns.I'd never buy a Compact, unless the polymer frame.

Smoother than most CZs and equally as durable.

reliable and accurate, not the prettiest pistols that I have ever owned. I've owned three, one in .380 and the other two in 9mm. For the money they were worth it.:)

Hmm. I have both as well, and find the G20 has a LOT more recoil than my Witness. My Witness is a full steel version.

Hello Fellows,

My first post.

I have one of the rare "MOSSAD" marked hi-cap 9 mm Tanfoglio's that Israel surplused out a couple of years back. It's a excellent pistol.

My local dealer got in a Witness Elite Match in .45 today. I only had a few minutes @ lunch time to handle it, had him put it in the safe for me. Will make my deal w/ him tomorrow for it. :)

Best Regards, ultramag44

As stated in an earlier post, EAA is an importer not a manufacturer, and they do import some fine guns. I have a Witness P Compact .45acp and use it as a CCW if that tells you any thing. They also are giving 1911's a hard run for their money in European IPSC matches. The Witness' are made in Italy by Tanfoglio, and are a copy of the CZ75 series of guns. The Zastava guns are from Serbia. (They were called CZ guns too, but not related to the other CZ company which is not Zastava.) They are also good guns. They were imported by Charles Daly as the ZDA before EAA. I have a TZ99 which is a South African, licensed built version of the Zastava guns. Isreal also made one called the "Golan". The TZ99 and the Golan were used by the respective military forces as was the original CZ99 by Serbia (Yugoslavia). In respect to wether they make compacts, Witness already does and Zastava is supposed to be releasing one soon if not already. They also import rifles, one of which is on the same level as the Barrett .50 BMG sniper rifle as well as revolvers based on Ruger styles. I have heard also that their customer service department is worthy of praise on processing warranty claims etc. With all this in mind, how can you go wrong?

Uhhh, where did you hear that? They are usually the ultimate example of what you should not do if you ever want repeat customers. It boggles the mind that they are even still in business.

I might consider buying one if that leggy blond in their ads comes with it. Actually, I'm not really interested in the gun. :D

I own a full-sized Tanfoglio Witness in 9x19. I bought it because I happened to run across a LNIB "Wonderfinish" with two full cap mags at a shop for $225. I was curious about the CZ-75 design and those weren't as yet being imported.

All I can tell you is that it's been a great bargain for me. In nearly 8K rds I've experienced a total of 2 malfs, both with "remanufactured" gun show ammo.

Nothing's broken, and the only parts that've been replaced were routine recoil and FP springs at approx. 5K.

The finish is tough and durable. Even now there is only minor polishing visible on the bearing surfaces. I may opt for a Bar-Sto barrel in another couple of K rds, although it is still giving me 2" or slightly better 5-rd. groups from the bench at 25 yds with 115 gr. Silvertips when I do my part right.

Generally, Italian QC in most things was infamous for its inconsistency. Think "Fiat", "Vespa", and the Ducati motorcycles of the '70's, '80's and early '90's.

That's gotten a good deal better in most respects, but apparently hasn't gone away entirely as yet. The biggest single factor, IMO, is that Tanfoglio's importer, EAA, developed a poor CS attitude back when they had huge backorders and little serious competition which they've done little of substance to correct.

Fortunately, I've not had to deal with them other than when I ordered ambi thumb safeties for my Witness and my CZ-97B. In both cases delivery was extremely slow (shortest time: 6 wks.) and telephone inquiries handled with long "holds" and a curt "It'll get there when it gets there" attitude. If I'd had any other recourse for the parts, I'd have used it.

While I'd buy another Tanfoglio, I'd feel a lot better about if EAA weren't involved.

frames are made in the philippines, i confirmed that late last week here at armscor, lol. if you want a glowing review of EAA stuff, ask 'hags' on this forum!

not to downplay EAA... but i hear mixed reviews about them. some glow in praise and some are ehh... but imo, buy the real thing for a little more, buy a CZ! one of the things i learned about shooting, is that the gun is the cheapest part and stays with you for life. just like good quality mechanic's tools, buy the best you can afford and then some.

I've owned four base model Witnesses.
EDIT: hit enter too soon
1x has been a great gun
2x have been marginal at best
1x was great big lemon

Every time I've ever talked to EAA, they have been utterly rude, condescending, and completely unhelpful.
