EAA trying to Resurrect the Tok 33?

I was flipping through the July/August issue of "American Handgunner" and ran across one of their typical semi-sleazy "pin-up" ads for what they're calling the "M88".

Next to the usual large photo of the scantily clad blonde is a photo of what looks to be a minimally gussied-up Tok clone. It's said to be offered in 9x19 and .40 S&W with a MSRP of $275-$295. Doesn't mention where it's made or anything else except double entendre hype and the barest (sorry, couldn't help it) description of nominal dimensions and weight.

Anybody know where it comes from or care to speculate on how it'd likely hold up to a passel of .40 S&W loads?
 
Some Yugoslavian (or former Yugoslavian) company, Zastava maybe, produced or produces TT33 clones. It might be one of those.

I saw a Zastava version in 9x19 on Gunbroker recently, had a lengthened grip, figure it would end up going for less than $500 and only that high because of the rarity of the thing.

Steve, as soon as I can figure out how to work this new printer/scanner I'll try to post a scan of the ad.

This may take some doing. The size of the scan is over 7MB and I've got to figure out how to pare it down enough to post.

Well, I give up. I've tried everything I can find in three different software apps to get the dang ad down to 244.7KB or less so I can attach it and I've failed miserably. Even a compressed PDF version is 2X over the limit at just over 2.6 MB.

The best I could do in jpeg was still 630+KB and that won't cut it for this site.

The ad is on page 35 of the July/August 2008 issue of "American Handgunner". It won't be on the stands for a month yet, but surely someone else subscribes and can vouch for the fact that the ad exists.

Given that EAA is importing the Zastava semi-SIG EZ-9 it would make sense that this Tok would be theirs too. Wasn't aware that it was still being made anywhere.
 
Oh, great, another company is making guns with "CZ" in the name. And this one isn't even Czech! :neener: I guess you can't really trademark a pair of letters.... :(

I would be interested if it was a good quality TT-33 clone (longer barrel and all) that was actually chambered in 7.62X25.

To me, it's just another 9mm/.40
 
colt1903 has a range report and more details in another thread. I've got one of these on the way so I'll post one after I've had a go at it.

Mine is one of the older ones, and it's a fabulous weapon...if somewhat low capacity. I had to tweak the rear sight blade to open it up a bit, but other than that, it's still as it came.

The 9mm's weight and width are ideal for comfortable shooting.

I noticed that EAA is advetising the M88 in .40 cal, and I'd really be interested in shooting that!

I don't know about you but I like that ad better than all the tacticool operator ads in the gun industry.
 
I finally held one today. It seemed to be like every Tok I ever held in the military. Gad, the trigger pull is awful. Of course I had just held and pulled the trigger on a Sig 250. :what: So that was a rough comparison for the EAA.

I do like the Blond in the ad though. :D
