Picked this up today and gave it the pre-flight cleaning and inspection. Looks to be very well made, fit and finish is great!

This is my 2nd 38 Super, the other being an engraved Colt that I really don't want to subject to a lot of rounds and range use. This one will get much more use. I'm excited to fire it. So far I'm very impressed. The blue finish is very sharp.

My only gripe is they are stingy with one 1 mag. But EAA has a special, 2 for $50 which I thought was not bad since they charge $40 for 1. Hope to get to the range Saturday, or maybe tomorrow!

Very nice. I have a plain jane Witness in .38 Super and really enjoy shooting it.

Thanks for the comments! I am not easily impressed by fit, finish and workmanship, but this one is very well done.

nice handgun

Those are nice guns at a nice price, but the steel ones are heavy. They also have very reasonably priced conversion kits to 22 lr that lets you practice with your carry gun if you so desire.

Beauty! I'm not a huge fan of the rail, but it does blend well on this critter. The elite models are all very nice. I have a Limited 10 in hard chrome; it's my most accurate pistol, save for the Desert Eagle I no longer own. Even my Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm can't quite run with it.

Very nice! I like the overall design and all steel construction of the gun. I like the extra touches like the metal checkering on the frame and the stippling on the grips. Looking forward to your range report.

Yes, very nice, Rodentman.

What's the barrel length on the Stock III? 5"?

Supposedly Tanfoglio makes an S-III in 10mm too.

FYI, Henning and Ben Stoeger sell lots of add-on goodies for Witnesses, if you're inclined to tinker. Sights, magwells, mag pad extensions, recoil springs of various weights, etc. You won't find aftermarket support at big box stores or general gun retailers, but it's out there in case you feel the urge.

Yes... it is a gun basically designed for IPSC Production competition. At 45-46 oz, you will definitely not want to carry it.

Magazines... get MecGars, they are out there for under $25 all day. They are OEM, just slightly different markings.

The trigger is pretty horrible out of the box, but can be improved very much with just a few parts and polishing.

Barrel length of the stock III is 4.75".

I'm disappointed that it isn't very accurate. I'm no marksman but I know what I can do with a similar sized pistol and this one is pretty bad. It is possible that the bbl is too wide to properly handle the Hornady .355 bullets?

I've never slugged a bbl but I have some soft lead bullets (MO bullets Brinell 12) and a solid brass rod.) What is the proper procedure for slugging the bbl and is it likely that this could cause the inaccuracy. I can't even call the result of 5 shot strings a "group" at 30 feet.

As a rule they are exceptionally accurate, so yes, something is wrong. I've shot .355 and .356 with no problems.

I was shooting a 6" target stuck on a badly perforated piece of cardboard at the range. I think I'll use a much larger target and see where the shots are going. Possibly just a sight adjustment is needed although usually out of the box I don't need to adjust much.

But I think a larger clean target will help. Guess that's obvious.....

I don't know if differences in front sight height could be responsible since I always install the EGW front sights before I even shoot them, but every one I've ever shot has the rear sight just about bottomed out from the factory and requires significant adjustment to get on target. Based on your description I don't think you can draw any conclusions about group size if you were completely off the intended target and shooting into a worn out portion of target?

Also they have polygonally rifled barrels, like a Glock, so I hear the same warnings apply about using lead bullets. I personally have not tried them.

Couldn't find a link, but what replacement sights does EGW offer for Tanfoglio's Stock and or Match pistols? Thanks.

That's a sweet looking pistol. I've always wanted a Super 38. Wouldn't mind laying hands on one of those.

The factory sight is plain black and fat, and not horrible, but I get the EGD narrower fiber sight:

Thanks for the link. The factory black sight on the Stock 1 is .150" in height, as measured w/ calipers from the bottom of the sight to the top. The pistol shot low until the rear elevation notch on the factory LPA sight was cranked up quite a bit, so that POA = POI.

How tall are the Gruffel's f.o. sights you have (when measured the same way)?

Thanks.

I'd have to measure, but probably the same height. All 6 of mine have had to have a major adjustment like you mention to get on target. I would guess you are setting it out to somewhere in the center of the adjustment range by doing that, and they just don't make any attempt to zero them at the factory.

What I'd like to find is a f.o. front sight that's shorter, say about .130" high - again, as measured above (bottom to top of sight).

Just FYI, but Dawson Precision does make f.o. front sights for the Tanfoglios, but they're height listings are a bit misleading. DP's height measurements are only the "height-above-slide" of the top section of the f.o. sight, not the total height of the sight. So DP's ".125 high" frt sight really measures like, .180" from top to bottom of the sight, which would be .030 taller than the factory frt sight

In my gun, that would lower POI significantly.
