I had "Secret Service" on a Colt Agent and "Classic" on a S&W N-frame (Model 25-5), both in smooth rosewood. They were more than satisfactory. Strangely, the S&W grips they sent me lacked a cutout on the left grip to clear the ejector rod and cases. I sent these back for correction and they were returned to me promptly.
The rosewood - obtained by the company's Indian owner through connections in the "old country," as are some of the other materials - is very attractive, and has other interesting attributes. It is not varnished, as the sanding tends to close up the pores and keep moisture out without the need for any. And despite the lack of checkering, the wood is not slippery - it has a slight "tackiness" to the surface.
