Gentlemen,
For many of the new guys. This is what is called a Plate. They are line drawings and not blueprints. They had sets of 8 Plates to a group and it showed changes in the M1 Garand to troops. This is one Plate of the Early Gas Trap. The BEST PLACE FOR PLATES AND BLUEPRINTS ON THE M1 GARAND IS AT:

A word to the WISE for CONGRESS:
"You cannot invade America. There is a rifle behind every blade of grass." Admiral Yamamoto

A Veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.”

Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read this data. I hope you have learned a little of the history of the M1 Garand.

Odd, I thought the gas cylinder was more different on the gas-trap models. For my relatively untrained but who owns two Garands, this looks just like what I have. But then, now that I look at the front sight and the somewhat shorter-looking cylinder, I can see the differences.

The gas cylinder is very different from the ones we all are used to seeing. A close look at the front portion is longer and the sight attachment and sight is different. The plug is also different and creates a false muzzle on the barrel.

From Fulton-Armory's site, here are the two compared. If you will note, it doesn't take much distance for the differences to become muddled.
