I hate to see such a great shooter retire so early. I have to say I'm sad to see you go Ms. Gray. Best wished for you in your future endeavors.

Colorado Springs, Colorado - There comes a time in every elite athlete’s life where they eventually succumb to the pain they place upon their body to perform the sport they love. Today is that day for reigning Olympic gold medalist Jamie (Beyerle) Gray (Lebanon, Pa.) as she reluctantly retires from her competitive rifle career.

Hanging up the towel forcibly due to injury is never a great process for your well being, I hope she adjusts well.

Glad she has the sense to give up the sport before it impacts her entire future and long-term health. Surely the focus and drive that made her so successful in precision shooting will carry her far in other areas of her life-

Hate to see her retire. I just shot with her at the OTC right around Christmas or a little after.

She was supposed to come back "home" and sign autographs at the Eastern Sports & Outdoors Show the winter after she won gold. Unfortunately that was the same show that got cancelled because of the boycott after the promoter decided to ban "assault weapon displays" at the show.

So she came back a few months later and signed autographs at the local gun stores who had booths at the show instead. I enjoyed a short discussion with her there about competitive shooting, and where she was going to go from here.


She's a great gal, from a great family.

Having dealt with a partially herniated disk in my lower back for 20+ years, I completely understand her calling it a career. I can't imagine what it took to shoot through the pain she was in. On the occasion that my back flares up, the last thing I'm looking to do is shoot a rifle! It was great to see her get the gold medal in London. I do wish her luck going forward and congratulate her on an outstanding career.
