Trying to remove the gas block which is turning out to be a little tougher than I expected.... yes, I'm trying to punch the pins out the right direction. I don't plan on ever using the thing again and am wondering what the quickest/easiest way to get it off. Kinda thinking of just drilling the pins out? I would cut it off but I would rather not risk nicking the barrel.

Brownells offers a product specific bench block for securing the barrel while punching out the pins.
They also offer a product specific taper pin punch for driving the pins out.

At minimum you will need a set of barrel vice blocks, a stout vice, a good hard 5/32" punch and a hammer.
Don't forget to remove the gas tube before you secure the barrel in the vice bocks or attempt to drive the pins out for that matter.
Failure to remove the gas tube before drifting the pins usually results in a bent gas tube and a second board thread on why my rifle won't function as a semi auto anymore.HTH
