Well, I'm new here on this board.......and new to East Texas. I am interested in any info anyone can give me about gun shops and/or shooting ranges and clubs in the East Texas ( specifically around Longview/Tyler area)......... Thanks in advance!!

Great Guns off the Loop on 155 heading West about a mile off the loop is good shop. Bill's Gun Station is good too, smaller shop, Tom's a great guy there. Forget the address though. Marie, the owner of Great Guns can give you info on range membership at the Tyler Gun Club.

There's also an indoor range on Loop 363, I've never used it since I moved right after it opened.

Lived in Lindale for 5 years. Love Tyler, it's a great town.

Don't know much about gun happenings in Longview. I live in Texarkana now and there's a couple of good gunshops and a decent range here too if you want the info...

I thought Bill passed away some years ago (Bill's Gun Station). One of my favorite gunshops is The Shootist on s. Broadway in Tyler. Mack is a great guy.

In Longview it thins out considerably. There is the E. TX Rifle and Pistol club between Kilgore and Longview off the old Kilgore highway.

Jack's out on E. Hwy 80 in Longview has probably the most inventory but it's been a couple of years since I went in there. I find a few deals there, but they're rare.

I have been friends with Bill Hodges at The Gun Doctor in Longview for over 20 years. Great gunsmith, but 'he's not very talky'. He'll look at you like you've got 3 heads until you've been around a few years.

Regards,
Rabbit.

I kinda got the impression that the gun range/shop in Longview was no longer in business. :( I tried giving them a call, but the number wasn't in service. That's not saying they aren't, but that was my impression. I'll have to remember to go check some of these out. It's nice to be back in Texas!!
Thanks for the info so far!

cnemikeman - welcome to THR and to East Texas!

Call Bob Godell at The Gun Doctor - he's the new owner and is also the treasurer of the East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club. I just returned from the monthly steel match. It's a great range; has 4 rifle ranges, 2 pistol ranges, and a shotgun/sporting clays range. All ranges are covered and there are benches galore. The number for the Gun Doctor is 903-753-3518.

The range is located just off I-20 on FM 2011 (exit 591). Get off I-20 at the FM 2011 exit (about 2 miles east of the Longview exit), go straight after the stop sign almost exactly 1 mile. About 100 yards past a bridge, there's a driveway/road on the left (right before a big new drilling rig on the right) with a sign reading "East Texas Rifle & Pistol Club. They also have monthly Bullseye matches.

Hope to see you there!

Yes, Bill, of 'Bill's Gun Station' did pass away. Tom, (whose last name escapes me right now), bought the store at the request of Bill's wife and has been running it for the past few years.

I spoke with Tom at the last gun show and he indicated that he might be shutting the operation down. I think his friend (and partner?) Jerry decided to retire and Tom finds it difficult to do all of it on his own. I don't know if he's made a final decision as yet.

I'll miss buying guns from him/them if he does shut down - he and Jerry are both nice folks.

Good deal.......thanks again for the tips. I also heard there is an upcoming gun show Thanksgiving weekend at Dallas Market Hall? I know it's a ride, but I may go and check it out, too. I hope to get to meet up with some of you all soon!!
