Easy Entry To Centerfire Target Shooting

I have been shooting for several months with a 22 caliber S&W model 41 with an ultradot red dot at pins and targets. I want to try centerfires now. I am concerned about the recoil and accuracy having never used a 45 before I am thinking of purchasing an older S&W model 52 shooting only 38 wadcutters I realize I would eventually need a 45 also. My question is Is the 52 correct or would a newer S&W 952 or a european gun be more appropriate. money is not an object within reason. Ammo ease of repair and maintenance are concerns as well as being easy to shoot well.

Go rent a 1911 at a range and you will, most likely, fall in love! I've shot many a 9mm that have more recoil, and they have a very easy takedown. There is a very good exploded diagram of a 1911 on a sticky thread of this forum.

In my view it's hard to go wrong with a Sig P220. It's reliable, accurate, attractive and heavy enough to absorb some recoil so it's pleasant to shoot. I bought a used one. They are as good (generally) as a new one. I paid 375 for mine.
