Gentlemen,
OK, what makes you think that the M1 Semiautomatic Rifle, or M1 Rifle got the name of the man who made it. Better known as the M1 Garand? I said it was easy.

A Veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.”

Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read this data. I hope you have learned a little of the history of the M1 Garand.

The rifle is commonly referred to as an "M-1 Garand" but it is actually identified as "Rifle, .30 caliber, M-1" by some military designations. Still other military groups call it the "Gas-operated, .30 caliber, M-1 rifle." So, basically the military people call it the M-1 rifle and civilian shooters call it the M-1 Garand rifle. Does that sound close to being right?

If we're going to be precise, it's an M1 not an M-1.

Even though that is not the official designation, 'twould seem that the name got applied due to the man who developed it. Maybe the name was added somewhere along the line to differentiate in between all the numerous M1 items in the inventory of the era?
