I made an awesome knife target for throwing. My camera's busted, but I'll post pics as soon as I can. But, for those interested, here's how I made it:
I went to Lowes and bought five 5/4 x 2 x 6 treated boards and had them cut to 80" tall. I bought one treated 2 x 4 and had it cut into 30" lengths. I bought 30 2 1/2" wood screws size 10.
I laid the five boards on my driveway and screwed the 2 x 4 at top, middle, and bottom with two screws per board for a total of 30 screws (probably overkill).
Using black paint, I painted a 12" black bullseye centered at 52" from bottom of the board. Above it, I painted two smaller bullseyes and a triangle at the top. Below the large bullseye, I painted another two smaller circles.
I can mount this target by leaning it against anything, and when I'm done, I can store it conveniently behind my shed so my wife doesn't have a hissy fit.
The total project costs $39, and I'm thinking it should last a long time. It only took 20 minutes to put it together because I had the boards cut to length at Lowes.
It's easy, portable, and can very easily have hinges attached on back for supports if you don't have anything to lean it against. I'm stoked because it's going to replace the old whiskey barrel bottom that I've been using lately.
