Ebay losing money...

As for their feeling the pinch from the loss of business - they will only feel it when a true competitor emerges which will eventually happen. Hopefully sooner. Go Google auctions!

I'll bet they won't allow firearms too.

For general info, the policy change email from ebay came out on July 30 and the ban took effect on monday august 13th. I checked my calendar to make sure that was NOT a "solid month". I sell brass to support my hobbies and I think ebay lost a substantial amount in that decision. My listing and final value fees were over $200 for that last week of brass sales and I am only one low volume dealer. I can tell you for a fact that Gunbroker Reloading supplies auctions increased by over 2000 auctions within weeks though! They have been good to me there and their listings and fees are super reasonable. I listed some pretty nasty propaganda in my final auctions and directed all the buyers I could away from ebay and their Nazi line of thinking. To quote a line "Pansie a$$ stool pushers"

So sell brass, etc., on GUNBROKER.

It's a no-brainer.

Ebay is not in the "gun" business, and with the regulation and liability involved, doesn't WANT to be in the "gun" business. Can't blame 'em.

Next thing, one of you guys is gonna go off because Cabela's won't UPS 'em a rifle...

I wonder if anyone at Ebay is having second thoughts at shutting out gunnies?

Even if a few thousand discouraged gunnies stopped using Ebay because of this new policy I really doubt that its going make a dent in their overall profits. In the grand scheme of things the gun related items that are now prohibited comprised a very tiny percentage of all the stuff that is bought and sold through them.

Between all the electronics, cars, collectibles, art, real estate, etc, etc, etc....do you really think banning a few gun related items is going to make any real difference to them? Of course they probably did loose some money by these new regulations and by loosing a few customers, but I seriously doubt that they are worried about that, they get thousands of new ebay customers every day from around the world.

To be honest I hate their new regulations, however I've been an Ebay user for nearly a decade and I will continue to use it, its a great resource in my opinion. I've bought and sold hundreds of things over the years and never had a bad experience.

I've been active on Ebay for nearly ten years, and I've seen it degenerate from a pretty cool thing to becoming a magnet for thieves and hustlers of every imaginable kind.

same here, but only for about five years. the shipping gouge is insane-
these "i sold it" places use that tactic shamelessly

stuff mentioned, HIgher and Higher fees, and the fact that the collectibles market in general is down are all contributing to less overall fees for ebay.

yep paypal, scandalous and owned by ebay. they get since i have a comercial account for selling. double feed on every ebay sale.

they do still have many gun parts you guys know right?
and of course accessories, and tons of cool cheap other items like kubotans

Ebay has become expensive to sell an item...

However it is still a great place to buy & sell... you just have to price accordingly and pay attention....

I just recently bought some really great Rosewood grips for a BHP for $25...should have been $125... Awesome grips.

I have sold articles of antique clothing to a guy in Taiwan City, Taiwan and was paid promptly against a NY bank, no problems gret deal....

Ebay is a very valuable tool for me, I have been buying & selling for at least 10 years...

non-recurring (one-time) and likely non-cash charge related to an acquisition.

far from an ongoing operating issue.

sorry, won't make freakbay come back to gunnies.

i dont buy from ebay anymore..if i search enought on the net i can find it for the same price usually somewhere else

I have not found a cheaper place to buy brand new Leupold Scopes online.
I am not in love with their policy but if I can save $100 on a scope that is a hard deal to pass on.

Fine, 2 weeks. Its their company and they can do what they want. People that use eBay as a business are the ones who ruined eBay anyways.

Its their company and they can do what they want.

I'm siding with bogie and Outlaws here: eBay made a business decision that allowing gun sales would do them more harm then good. I have no beef with that, and take my gun-related business to GunBroker instead.

eBay is still a great resource for all kinds of other interests. I've gotten great deals on music gear. Lots of folks have Appalachian dulcimers laying around, and they aren't going to spend hours tracking down dulcimer forums and registering there (if they even know what a dulcimer is), but if they toss it up on eBay I can get a good deal on it.

People that use eBay as a business are the ones who ruined eBay anyways.

Though I grudgingly admit that business listings are part of the "free trade" concept of eBay, I do hate having to sift through dozens of "BUEATIFUL all wooden Ukulele, $1.00 (+$45 s/h)" auctions from China to find an actual vintage wooden uke with a low starting bid.

I see no reason to boycott eBay or PayPal for not allowing gun sales, any more than you should get angry at a girl who won't go to coffee with you. You have no "right" to sell guns on eBay, and eBay isn't interfering with your ability to buy guns from any other site.

I buy motorcycle parts on e-bay because of the crazy nuts mark up at motorcycle dealerships. I have bought holsters and night sights on e-bay much cheaper than if I bought the same at a dealer.

Skype

As for the big Skype writedown, it serves Ebay right. Dabbling in that business was a foolish waste of money and just demonstrates how badly their management has strayed from the core business.

I use SKYPE all the time. It is actually a really really nice service. The voice quality is way better than any landline or cell I've had/have. Go to Walmart and by a Logitech USB headset for $15 (makes skype run way better). I can call anybody I want in the US from anywhere that I have an internet connection. Denny's, the library, the airport, etc. etc. Conference calls are a snap, and free. I have a portable contact list, just login and it comes up.

Now I see what you mean by losing money because they are making money hand over fist. Sure they could be making more with gun sales, but I also imagine they would have greater headaches as well.

I dislike Ebay;s policy but they provide a service not available any where or that didn't exist before.

Found a rear sight for a Colt Colteer Single shot on Ebay. Colteers were only made 9 years, 57 to 66, in a quantity of only 25000. Mine is a 22 magnum and so much less of those were made. I doubt the 22 LR sight is any different but the one I bought was off a 22 magnum.

I had searched every web site, catalog etc. gun shop/show, made phone calls, used everything at my disposal searching to no avail, and then all at once there one was on Ebay. Took a year to find but now my rifle is complete.

As said, I DISLIKE Ebay's policy but will continue to shop there.
Sears and many others quit selling guns but we all still shop there.

Ebay losing money...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder if anyone at Ebay is having second thoughts at shutting out gunnies?

Has anybody a clue how much business they gave up when they shut us out? I think that would be interesting to know.

This is something of a misunderstood business concept. Ebay isn't losing money. They are simply failing to earn quite as much because of the tiny market share they have cut off.
