I'm back in the market to replace my Les Baer SRP that I sold about 6 months ago, and find myself leaning toward the Ed Brown series, specifically the stainless Executive Elite.

I know that historically, EB guns have been the cat's meow in terms of quality, fit, and customer service. It's also true that sometimes...shops can be victims of their own success.

EB has been out there and lauded long enough that I need to know -- if I buy a Brown 1911 today off his shelf, is it likely to be of the same caliber (no pun intended! :D ) as those being made 5 years ago?

Please don't mininterpret my post -- I haven't heard a single negative thing about Mr. Brown or his line. At the same time, I haven't heard of a lot of folks purchasing new production, either. Just need to get some warm fuzzies before plunking down a couple grand +.

Have a great weekend!

I have seen an example of a below average Ed Brown. It was a Executive, the hammer had really rough tool marks on the inside of the skeleton hammer, and on the hammer face.

Other than that, the gun was cherry and damn smooth to the touch. :)
